Consistent eCabs crashing after adding top molding

Post by Donald Thomson »

After adding top crown molding to 3 cabinets in a custom room layout, I will take a 4th cabinet in to add crown molding. Once I've added the crown molding on cabinet 4 I click Main to return to the CE. eCabs locks up and crashes and has to be restarted. I've done this consistently 3 times in a row.

I ALWAYS save the job once I return to the room layout after adding top molding to a cabinet - I'm tired of having to redo a bunch of cabinets over after a crash.
Sincerely,

Don,

You probably need to post your job. I tried it with my room and cabinets and nothing happens.

Don,

I just thought, Maybe it has something to do with the specific molding you are adding.

Post the job, step you are taken, the molding you are using, and your video card model and your OS type.

Steps:

Load job into room layout editor
Select a cabinet
Take cabinet into CE
Go to molding editor
Default top molding is Conestoga CR-Crown-24-Cherry
Set parameters for adding the molding
Set stepdown from top of cabinet to .5"
Add the top molding
Go back to CE
Change molding to match faceframe color and texture
Return to room
Save job
Select another cabinet
Go into CE and repeat above process

When I do this 3 times it works each time. When I try and do it with a 4th cabinet when I execute the step to Return to Room the program locks up and Windows has to shut it down.

OS is Windows 7 (64-bit)
Quad Core processor
8GB Ram
Radeon 4800 video card with latest drivers for Windows 7

Don,

For the last several years, I have been using a library to design with that has all the crown molding on them already.

One at a time open one of them in the CE and add the molding the way you want and save it.

Then when you place them in the room layout, you are done.

It still should not be crashing on you, but I thought i would pass my method along to you.

Don,

I can't open this job. There is a hardware item (Hafele HF-28211707 shelf pin) that doesn't have a hardware type assigned and eCabinets won't let me remove it or add it. (see your post about pe resizing)

If this is the same cabinet in your other post it may be the culprit. Remove this cabinet then try your moldings and see if they work. (or maybe you can add a hardware type to the pins)

Don,

Just for information sake, I was able to open your job using V6 build 2. The hardware shows up correctly there but the shelf hardware category is missing when I try to open it in Build 3 and eCabinets won't let me open the job.

Don,

I played with this for a while, Can't open the job in Build 3 and didn't have any problems with moldings in Build 2 so I guess I am not much help.

You're right Kerry. Somehow 8 shelf pins got put into this cabinet and there are no shelves in it. When I try to delete the pins in the cabinet buy list it won't let me delete them. This is a problem I've had before with deleting hardware from a cabinet. It seems that once it's in the cabinet buy list you can't get rid of it. Somehow KD/RTA fasteners are also in the cabinet under the KD/RTA tab and I can't get rid of them. I used M&T joinery on these cabinets so I don't know why the KD/RTA fasteners are even listed.

Kenneth - thanks for the idea on the library. That might be the way to go in the future.
