Profile edge feature?

Post by Dale Wills »

Hi,
When using the profile edge feature of eCabs, can this only be used in conjunction with profile modeler on the machine. Say if I have a 45 degree tool set up in eCabs and want a simple 45 degree cut along one edge, getting it to happen in eCabs is easy but I was wondering what happens once the file gets out to the machine. How does it know what tool to use or does the machine require profile modeler?
Thanks in advance,
Dale

Hi Dale,
There is no way you can tell the Thermwood control via Ecabinets that you want to use a dedicated 45 degree router bit. It will always profile using the ball shaped router bits.
Not sure if you saw the youtube reference for some snappy looking kitchen doors that one of the Thermwood staff posted. Sorry for not remembering his name. The end result was that 25 doors with that profile work would take 8 hrs of machine time. Most shops would not afford the time for this process.

It would be a good feature if you could assign a tool number to an profile tool you have created. That way if you did some doors for example it may take seconds to do some passes instead of minutes. Where you haven't a specific router bit it would revert to profiling.

Hope all is well with you on the East Coast.

This can be done with Profile Modeler. You just need to select custom tool. Then the path is not modeled. Control Nesting also utilizes the Profile Modeler with the option to select custom tool for up to 2 regions per part.

Dale,

If you have Profile Modeler on your machine, you can use custom tools directly in it, and as many as you want/need by selecting the regions and switching it to use a custom tool. Now, you can also do this directly in the Control Nesting nest as well, by using the MDF Door Tool Options. but it has some limitations. You will only be able to use the custom tool option for up to 2 regions (2 individual profile cut paths) per part and only 2 custom tools per nest. It will use the interior tool for region 1 and the exterior tool for region 2. If more regions exist on the part, it will default those to the default tool group that is set in Profile Modeler. If you want further details or have more questions on this, give us a call.
