Here is a shutter I needed to reproduce.

We'll see how it cuts this weekend.

Hello Kerry!

Nice work, but I'm curious, is that a typical Texas shutter?

PS. Hope this message finds you well.

Dennis,

These are exact replicas of the shutters hanging on the Alamo.

Actually I don't know where they came from but they do look like they would be more at home in Santa Claus Indiana than here in Texas.

They were fun to do because I originally thought I was going to have to use a Cad Cam software to do the spirals but once again I found that all you need is eCabinets.

So, no DXF file? I find the CAD section of eCabs lacking.

No DXF Leo,

I prefer drawing in eCabinets to any thing else. Most cabinet parts etc. are pretty simple to start out with and I have found the tools in eCabinets work great.

What do you find lacking?

The "CAD" functions in eCab compared to a normal CAD program are just not there. No trim, the chamfer is difficult, having to use absolute measurements on a lot of things, no end of the line snap

Leo,

It is all in what you get used to.

There is a trim function and I have no problems with the chamfer tool. I rarely use absolute measurements I toggle between grid and object snap.

I see no sense importing a .dxf when I can draw it in eCabs.

I originally did the spirals on these shutters in Intellicad using a lisp routine to create the spirals. The only problem was that the spirals were created as line segments instead of arcs so I just drew the spirals in eCabinets. Much better.

I was making a countertop for a bar and it needed a miter joint in it. If I was in my CAD it would have taken about 3 strokes to make it happen and then I could use the cut through function

With eCabs I needed to go to the contour area, create lines, offset a line the same as the width of the board, draw a line from one corner to the next, then use the trim function on the three corners to join them, bring them back to the main area and then cut out the selected area.

I tried the chamfer function but it refuses to go as far as a full 45 degree angle. If it would it would have been a breeze.

How would you do this, maybe I am doing it the long way.

Leo,

HERE is a screen capture video mitering a top using the chamfer tool.
