Barb Dado

Post by Robert Glenn »

I’m interested in trying the Barb Dado construction method to speed up my assembly process. Any good or bad comments based on your experience would be helpful and appreciated.

Thanks...

Do not use with Particle core :wall: . Works okay with veneer core. Works best with MDF core. Overall, the joints hold secure but they are not as tight as can be achieved with screws. The application is nice when you have a finished end.

thanks Wayne, have you heard of anybody using this construction method with a case clamp and quick dry glue to try and bring the joints in tighter?

Robert,

I tried the Barb Dado on veneer core plywood for about a year. I really wanted it to work, especially on drawer boxes, but after that time I found I always needed to clamp or screw the joints. In the end I felt that the Barb Dado wasn't worth the extra machining time it took. If you are going to use a case clamp I think that a properly fit Blind Dado will work just as well.
