Pin cutout width on Flip Ops First

Post by Jeremy Schiffer »

CN seems to be ignoring the setting for Cutting Width in the Cut Flip Ops First settings when it is set to cut notches for the pins. It always cuts a 30mm wide notch for the pins, no matter what number I enter in the setting. Can anyone confirm this?

Okay, digging around in the CN folder, I found a couple of files that shed some light on what is happening. default.ini and machine.ini both contain the settings, and a third had been created called Group4.ini... obviously based on my tool grouping, even though I had never checked the use groups box. So I renamed that file so CN wouldn't find it, and it then started obeying the number I entered.

There is definitely a problem in this area of CN though, because I am having to use a negative cut amount equal to the radius of my outline bit, otherwise the two sides of the sheet are not lined up, and are off by the radius of the outline bit.

If a programmer would like to discuss this, feel free to call, as I could be more explicit on the phone as I look at the settings... I've spent many hours so far on this, and it'd be nice to get this worked out.

FYI: The file I'm using is a DXF, not a TWD, and my machine is set up in metric, with CN version 5.74

I'm finally cutting parts. Here's my workaround for anyone interested: I had to set the pin cutout depth to -3.11mm, which is the radius of my outline cutter, to make that behave properly. Since the cuts on Side A of the sheet were off by 3.11mm (the cutter radius again) compared to the cuts on Side B of the sheet, I had to comment out the G901 on the Side A code and insert a G51 with the correct X and Y values to get them to line up.

Hi Jeremy,
Did you try the two edge trim option instead of the trim pin area only? I wonder if that's any different.

I thought about trying that, but didn't, because that isn't an option for the job I'm working on. I haven't seen any other complaints about this, so maybe it's something screwy with my machine. If that's the case, all I know to do is avoid using the "cut flip ops first" feature at all costs! What a pain in the rear it has been.
