20-20 TECHNOLOGIES AND THERMWOOD WORKING TOGETHER

Post by Jason Susnjara »

20-20 Technologies, TSX: TWT), the world leader in 3D interior design and furniture manufacturing software, and Thermwood, a leading manufacturer of CNC router systems and technology leader in nested based applications, have joined together to offer a smoothly integrated, highly productive manufacturing system for cabinet manufacturers.

“We are very excited about this new partnership,” said Ken Susnjara, CEO of Thermwood. “This represents a truly comprehensive approach from design and retail all the way through manufacturing, all working together smoothly and seamlessly. It combines the best technology of both Companies to create an industry-leading offering.”

The data process starts with the design. Over 50,000 dealers use 20-20 Design or ShopWare CAD to layout and sell projects. To machine a job, an output file from 20-20 software is sent directly to a Thermwood CNC router and the advanced CNC control on the Thermwood system automatically performs all required CAM functions, nests the parts, prints nest diagrams and labels and runs the job directly from full sheets of material. For even higher production volume, rectangular panels without additional machining are sent to an optimized panel saw, and only parts that require CNC machining are sent to the router. This not only increases overall production capacity, but represents an increase in productivity as well.

“The advantages to using nested based techniques for machining instead of cutting all panels on a saw and then processing machined parts one at a time on a machining center are significant,” said Craig Yamauchi, Executive Vice-President of Manufacturing & Residential Solutions of 20-20 Technologies. “Labor requirements are less and productivity is higher, sometimes substantially higher.”

20-20 welcomes the opportunity to demonstrate the ease of use and high functionality delivered by this partnership for shops seeking best practices and robust integration at this year’s AWFS show in July. 20-20 representatives will be on site to show how you can go from the showroom to the shipping dock with greater sales tools, lower costs, fewer errors and increased ROI.

Morning Jason
That looks like it is going to work out great.
Jason down the line do you think we could move e-cabinet project into 20-20 and take from 20-20 :?:

Hey Jason,
I am wondering out loud how this will affect e-cab users and or machine owners. I understand that many kitchen and bath design/sell company's use 20/20 for design, but don't they use library's provided by the major manufacters? Is there a way for the average thermwood owner such as myself to get a library set up in 20/20 for the kitchen and bath designers to use? I am sure there is no way to take a design done in 20/20 using stock cabinet manufacters librarys and running it on a thermwood, unless you happen to be the stock cabinet manufacter.
I also understand that 20/20 has a version available running on a full blown cad engine, this I can understand to be useful to send parts to the router, but was'nt that already a possibility?

NOt being the sharpest knife in the drawer, I am probably missing out on some possible approach to this improving my business, any idea's?

Hi George,

At this time there is nothing that will take a design from one to the other.

Hi Michael,

This should not affect eCabinet members as this is a link for manufacuturing. This does give Thermwood machine owners another way of producing cabinets for clients though. 20-20 sells either new designs that need to be programmed or they sell allready made designs from companies such as Masterbrand, Aristokraft and others. For instance, if you purchased 20-20, you could have them desing a whole library for you or you could purchase one that is allready created. Some of the larger type cabinet shops that use salespeople have the 20-20 software but really have no way of machining the product unless they use another piece of software. I am unsure if you can manufacturer cabinets from the large corporations and will need to check with my contact at 20-20. If I had to guess I would have to say no. Do you plan on attending the AWFS show in Vegas? I hope this answers your questions and if not, please let me know.

Hi Jason, yes that does help. I do know 20/20 is pretty popular with a lot of the kitchen and bath designers and places like lumber yards that sell cabinets. This might be a way in for thermwood owners if we had librarys and pricing available for these type retailers to use in the 20/20 software. I have been approached by a few of them over the years but found no easy way for them to get a design and quote to a customer without involving me and taking up a lot of my time for what I would guess is a high majority of tire kickers/price shoppers.I will not be in Vegas, but maybe you could pursue this a little further with the 20/20 people that I am sure will be there and see what opportunities there might be for smaller shops to get librarys in to their software. I see it as starting small with maybe a half dozen local resalers, then possibly taking it from there. I dont know, but maybe they are already doing such a thing or have generic librarys available available to guys like me that could be altered and branded? Hmmmmmmm

We use 20-20 Technologies as a design and pricing program for our dealer network. However we are looking at finding something that smaller dealers or shops can design with and price jobs without the high cost of buying 20-20. Would eCabinet be a good fit for us? I'm concern only about our large catalog pricing and hoping eCabinets could handle it.

Hi Kevin,

Libraries can be re-created in eCabinets. You can give those cabinets the same name that is used in 20/20 so the dealers and shop can refence the name. I am unsure if the pricing in eCabinets works the same as 20/20. Every cabinet designed in eCabinets can be saved as a catalog cabinet in which you give the cabinet a selling price. Of course a catalog cabinet cannot be resized. I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Thank you, that does help.
So we have 12 pricing columns representing different woods and doors styles, would we have twelve Base15 options then? or can ecab out port data to excel and have excel do the pricing?

Hi Kevin,

You could create 12 different Base15 cabinets and each could have a seperate price. This to me would be the easier method even though there are more libraries. Or you can go through the costing area of eCabinets but this would require a dealer to select a cabinet and then add the doors, drawers, etc... The only info that we export to an excel spreadsheet is the cutlist.
