Auto Tool Measuring Drills with points

Post by Erran Fichman »

Is there a way to automatically change a tool's length/daylight after auto measuring it?

Certain "flat bottom hole" drill bits have a sharp point that extends beyond the flat section of the drill. Should I just use a G52 (fixture offset) for each tool that needs this?

I presume you can set a Z value using a G51/G52, but I have never tried.

Yes, go into the tool manager and add a specific amount to your daylight value. For 5mm brad point I add .05". This tricks the control into thinking the tool is shorter by that amount so every time it moves to depth it will move that much farther.

Thanks for the reply, but I meant if there is a completely automatic setting I can add to the tool so nobody has to remember to do it each time the tools are measured.

I have since figured out a workaround in our software, so no big deal either way.
