Win XP and NET.Framework v4.0

Post by Leo Graywacz »

Just did the Build 14 update. This required NET.Framework v4.0 to be installed. Took quite a while to install both. After that I had to reboot to update the system. When the boot started my desktop picture came up and then the machine hung there for over 90 seconds. I tried a few things and then went into the System Configuration Utility and I stopped the NET v4 service and rebooted. I had a nice quick normal boot. Went back and started the NET v4 back up and did another boot, slow as molasses.

So I searched online and found a solution.

Go to START and RUN and type in CMD

This will bring you to the command prompt. Then type this in

cd
Then type this in

cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319
Then type this in

ngen update

Mine had quite a few errors and a missing file. It took about 7 minutes for it to compile everything.

I rebooted and it's nice and quick again, just like normal.
