Drawer Standoffs and hardware PTN's

Post by Stuart Douglas »

I have a base cabinet that has pullouts inside of a left hinged base. I need to put standoffs on the hinge side of the drawer slide to clear the door and hinge hardware. Is there a way to specify a different hardware pattern for each side of a drawerbox? The left side will use the standoff and has holes above and below the slide mount hole to attach the standoff to the cabinet and maintain the same slide layout on each side of the cabinet. TIA :?

Not sure what you are asking but if you simply need more space on the left side for your standoffs you can take your cabinet into the cabinet editor - drawer box editor- select all of your drawers and change the left inset to include the thickness of your stand off as well as your slide. As for different hole patterns someone else may be of more help.

Stuart, they do make some plastic blocks that have a hole in the center allowing for a 5mm screw to go all the way thru. This will allow you to use the same pattern as all the rest. The other thing you could do is create a pattern with the extra holes needed for the blocks and let it apply to both sides. If its only for pullouts it wouldn't add to much time to machining.

I use a 3/4" partition with 0" gap against the side of the cabinet and apply a full line bore with front and back insets to match my slide pattern. This allows for adjusting the placement of the drawer. With the new features currently in Beta you can also lock the openings so the cabinet can be resized without the partition moving.

Be careful with those plastic packers to bring the drawer runners off the carcass side. I used two or 3 so the runner would not damage the door. What I didnt think about was the tapper of the screw didnt give it a lot of strength. The client filled it up with expensive China tea service and when the top drawer let go it dropped to the middle one which let go then down to the bottom. :wall: Just re reading the post I am referring to drawers behind doors and frameless construction. I over came this by using another inner panel to bring it over 16mm. Recently have switched to a blum hinge that cranks differently and when at 90 degrees the drawer will slide past with a standard side. This saves heaps of time and effort for a slightly more expensive hinge. :D

Thanks for the help, gang. That story about the tea set makes me cringe! I guess there is no harm in having the extra holes in the side without standoffs, I'll just make them shallow holes to mark the locations above and below. maybe the dev's can think about adding this feature in the future.

The spacers I used have a wide base that allows for an extra wood screw to be placed in the top and bottom of it. The main screw gets it lined up and the others are for reinforcement. I'll see if I can find any and post a pic.
