Countertop to Constraint Manager

Post by Donald Thomson »

Is there a way to take a countertop into the constraint manager so I can turn circle cutouts into oval cutouts?

Trying to add oval sink cutouts in a vanity countertop.

Don,
Countertops are not supported by the constraint manager.

But, I have a link to a website that will create any size oval/ellipse you want using approximated arcs and allows you to download a ready to go full 360 DXF file that you can load directly into the part editor Contour area. The arcs are perfectly tangent and will machine wonderfully at the router. There is no need to have your approximation error set finer than .03, because it will then just create more arcs along the path and create an unnecessarily larger file. This is a very useful tool for getting oval/elliptical cut outs. (it tends to flicker between English and Japanese when you select draw, but who cares if it give you what you need)

Thank you Scott.

Any chance we might be able to get oval capability in PE or be able to use CM for countertops in a future release?

Hi Scott,
Doing the same stuff here. I created the DXF file but how Do I load directly into the part editor Contour area?
I have a display panel in the Contour area but can not get the Ellipse to load?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

1.) Save the dxf from the website in the orientation desired.
2.) Go to Part Editor, then Contour.
3.) Select the Load Geometry icon (1st icon from left for the Contour area -- looks like a hand reaching into a file folder) or select Load Geometry from the right-click menu.
4.) Select the file in the Open dialog, then select Open.
5.) The geometry for the Ellipse should load and then you can move it into location if needed
6.)Return to main PE area and select Cut/Pocket Using Closed Contour.
