Can't put a profile on bottom eadge of display board

Postby t w fortier » Wed, Dec 16 2015, 2:17PM

HI, I have a display board (16"x3"x3/4") in the part editor and can't put a single profile on the bottom edge. It cuts off the bottom edge instead.
I can put the profile all the way around or singly on the other three edges, (left, top, right), but not the bottom.
Is it me, the software or hardware? Does anyone know how to get it done?

If you draw the cutter as per the pic below and set the diameter to be the distance between the beads for example the cutter that I made the diameter was ¼. You can use the radius comp feature.
On the bottom click on the right bottom corner. The red dot should be on the left.
In the radius comp section choose comp Right. In the additional offsets section select comp right. Make sure that the distance is set to 0.
On the top click on the top Left top corner. The red dot should be on the Right.
In the radius comp section choose comp Left. In the additional offsets section select comp left. Make sure that the distance is set to 0.
I hope this helps.

Changed cutter design as Scott suggest and I could put a profile on bottom edge. Thanks Scott. But....................................
I ran into a problem with putting two different profiles on the same part. Pics below:

A BIT 1.jpg
Using 'A' bit on two edges

A BIT 2.jpg
Good result.

B BIT 1.jpg
Set up for second profile on same park,

The result .

I switch 'B' bit for 'A' bit and could put a profile on the last two edges.
Does this mean you can only put one profile per park???
How would some one put more then one profile on the same part?

I cannot seem to reproduce this error with the cutters that I am using. Everything works fine for me using the settings in your screen shots. I am however running a Beta version.
Could you post the .Tol files of the cutters that you are using? If you rather you can Pm me with the files or email them to me.
There is one thing that you might try in the meantime. After you put the first profile on the part return to main. Then take it back into the part editor. I have done this in the past when I received errors like this with good results.

Tony.
I downloaded the cutters that you posted. I got the same results that you were getting. I noticed that cutter A had a slight flat on the bead (See the original cutter screen shot below). As if you may have used the fillet tool to create it. This is common with using fillets. So I redrew both cutters and used the three point arc tool to make the bead. Tried her again and it works like a charm.
Here are the new cutters that I made. Let me know if they work for you.

Thanks Scott, your cutter worked. I make my cutter radius from a circle so I went back to my cutters and used the three point arc and my cutter also worked.
Guest I won't use a circle that way in my cutters in the future.

Hi tony.
After posting I did bring up your cutter and I too used the circle method to modify cutter A. The circle method worked just fine. The only thing that I done was made sure that there was no flat on the bead.
The original cutters may have worked just fine if they both had the same flat. So don’t abandon the circle method completely. I have found this method very useful and a quick way to draw stuff like this.
By the way Thanks for the complement on my videos. I hope they have helped.
