Ecab gets stuck returning to Custom Layout from LDE

Post by Leo Graywacz »

OK. So I load in my kitchen. I pick a wall and go to wall view. I highlight a cabinet and click on the LDE icon. It asks what I want to do and I choose Take Selected Cabinet(s). It brings me to the LDE and I do my thing there. Then I want to return back to the room so I click on the Room View icon. It starts to load the Room View page but then stops. No error is listed and the only thing I can do is close the program and reopen it to continue,

I thought it was just on this particular job so I tried an early kitchen I had done and it did the same thing to me.

I had recently done a driver update to my M3000M NVidia card. I don't remember it doing it before that but I'm not sure if I did it in the order that I stated above that causes the issue.

I tried it just as you described Leo. Mine does not do that and I've done what you are doing in the past and don't recall it ever doing it. I'd say you're right that it's probably a driver problem. You downloaded from Nvidia's site I assume. I always download from there and wish there was a way to prohibit Windows 10 from updating my driver.

Yes, from the NVidia site directly.

OooooKkkk....

I went to the device manager and to the M3000M driver, clicked properties and then hit update driver. And it did something other than say the most current driver is being used. Never had that happen before. But it didn't update the driver, it downgraded it. I had a 2018 driver in there and it downgraded me to a 2015 driver.

But, the problem is gone. Let's see if that downgrade screwed up anything else in my computer. But for now the issue is resolved.

Device manager typically gives you incorrect information. It doesn't look for the latest driver from Nvidia's site, it looks to Windows to see what is recommended as latest. Provided your signature is correct regarding computer information, the latest driver was released 2/22/2019 version 419.17. For those with Nvidia cards, this link https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx is the place to go. Put in your card and computer information to check for latest drivers. If your card is still supported by Nvidia, they usually will release driver updates on a monthly basis.

Pretty sure that is what driver I had in there. I just updated the driver about a week or so ago. When I get home I'll see if I can update it again. Maybe something went bonkers when I did it last time. I also did a bunch of Windows updates 2 nights ago. They might have interfered with something and installing the driver after the updates will let it work properly.

At least I know I can find a version that works.

Yes, the signature is correct.

I put the latest update in and the date on the driver is 12/17/2018 and the version is 24.21.14.1216 as reported by the device manager.

The issue is gone, so I'm guessing when I did the windows updates it broke something. Now that I did the windows updates and did the NVidia update after, it seems to be working good.

Leo,

Glad to hear it is working. For Nvidia, I always go to the Nvidia Control Panel to verify driver version. Depending on Windows version you can either get to it from the taskbar icon or right clicking on the desktop. From there, you can go to Help, and then System Information. The dialog that opens will tell you the driver version that coincides with the driver versions listed on the Nvidia site. The number reported back from Device Manager is the file version for a .dll within the driver.

While you are in the Nvidia Control Panel, it wouldn't hurt to go ahead and set eCabinets to always use the high performance card. That way the computer isn't switching back and forth between the Nvidia card and integrated card. For laptops there is typically a power management setting and you can set it to prefer maximum performance. This can be set on a per program basis so eCabinets will be the only program that uses these settings.

I upgraded to this driver and the problem came back. I wasn't able to resolve the issue while using this driver version. I had to go back to the 2018 v25.21.14.1678 (416.78) driver to get the program to work properly. The enterprise driver is what won't work on my system. I'm currently using the "new feature" driver which is the 2018 version.
