face frame tips-help thermwood

Post by Michael S Murray »

Ok Guys, I am going to design a couple bookcases out of mdf for a paint finish. I will use the new puzzle joint on the mdf face frame and attach to the box with blind dado joinery. What am I looking for in the mortise tenon settings and the puzzle joint settings. Anything to look out for on the router settings in control nesting?
Thanks

I'm at a loss. Where do you find an option for the new joint?

On the bottom of page one of face frame settings in construction settings.

The puzzle joint works only when you choose sheet stock for face frames and mortise & tenon works only for board stock.

Ray, check the global settings page in the construction settings area.

No, no, no, no... You select materials for face frames on page two of face frame construction settings. The setting in global settings (extend to face frames) controls how face frames are joined to the cabinet.

If you don't heve these options Ray, it sounds like you haven't upgraded to version 5.1.

Sorry I misread the question  I was referring to the settings for the puzzle joint fit. Maybe my answer was correct Ray just asked the wrong question.

I'm just teasing you anyway Joe. You can select the joinery for face frames on the global settings tab, just not the material for them.

Either I'm blind or my version doesn't have the option. In another post it was mentioned v5.01. I've got V5.0 build 12. I've looked for an upgrade and can't find it. What am I missing?
Thanks

Thanks folks. I've been out of the loop the last 5 days. 2\" of ice and 9\" of snow = no power, no phone, no internet.

After a bunch more ice sleet and 10\" of snow with 40 mile an hour winds, I'm again back on line. I've gotten the new version downloaded and the new features are great.

Again, Thanks
