How I apply crown in room.

Post by Forrest Chapman »

Guys,

I don't know how you guys are doing crown and I'm sorry I didn't mention this sooner. I simply apply crown to the top of a cabinet and delete all the other parts. You can do many different configurations for instance, left end finished, right end finished, both ends finished, or just across front. This can be applied to a diagonal as well. When you load into room set the mounting height the thickness of your top material higher than the cabinet going to. You can actually do the same with any moldings having an easy way to load and change moldings at room level. Is anyone else doing this?

Hope this helps somebody,
Forrest

Ps. For those machining you can set the top material size really small like 2x2\" and it will not cut and also price at 2 cents per sheet to avoid any overpricing based on materials.

I just built my 4 little toppers. One for the butt ends one for a left one for the right and one for a whole cabinet.

This has great potential.

I wonder if the programers can make the crown to be applied to the cabinets like the counter tops are applied. Basicly from a click of the mouse on the corners of the uppers...hummm. :P

Micheal,

That has been a suggestion from the start. I'm sure the programers are working to implement this. For now this has been an affective workaround for me.

Darn, you mean I didn't have a good idea? I am always a day behind and a dollar short...

Got a dollar to help me catch up?

I'm about to pull the rest of my hair out!! Trying to do as Forrest mentioned in the first post of this thread (excellent idea!) with the crown that has the applied rope molding. Is there an easier method of applying the rope than just attempting to line it up willy nilly with the mouse. I have applied the front rope molding and am attempting to apply the sides and I can't seem to find any \"hot\" handles to align it with. I feel like I'm chasing the wind trying to attach it like this.

Mike,

Its still a great idea. You just didn't come up with it first and neither did I  . Its actually how crown is handled in some other cabinet programs. Talking to the programers they are also working on allowing moldings to be created and saved as a user standard. Can't wait.
