The CabinetShop Series is available from Thermwood, the oldest manufacturer of CNC routers. Thousands of Thermwood CNC routers are in operation in 29 countries producing everything from simple wood parts to space probes. Thermwood has consistently been the technology leader with more patents on CNC routers than anyone else. The CabinetShop Series machines offer important features not available from anyone else in the world, features that are important to your success.

A State-of-the-art CNC control – your key to success

The nesting, CAM work and Post Processor are all in the control and are all automatic.

To be successful in a custom cabinet shop, the CNC control must do many things well, but it must also be simple and easy to use. This requires a control that is sophisticated enough to handle all the complexities automatically. Basic controls, often promoted to the cabinet industry, were designed to produce hundreds or thousands of identical parts, not to do one off custom pieces like those needed by custom cabinet shops. They require that the programmer and operator do the complex work because they can’t. Thermwood’s control, on the other hand, uses next generation control concepts and is intended for flexible custom production. It does the work for you automatically, so you don’t have to.
For example, Thermwood’s Gen2 SuperControl accepts next generation job input. An entire job is sent to the control as a single file rather than as a hundred or more individual CNC files as required by first generation controls. The control guides you through each step instead of you having to sort through, organize and execute individual CNC programs. It’s easy and more importantly, your machine is much more productive because you’re not wasting time messing around with computer files.
The control takes the job, nests the parts and creates CNC programs right in the control. With Thermwood, simply send the job to the control and it does the rest and it’s all automatic.

If the job has MDF doors, it makes them. If the job has dovetail drawer boxes it makes them. If the job has five piece raised panel doors, it makes them. It even makes nested face frames with puzzle joints, and if it encounters a profile it doesn’t have a profile tool for, it develops a modeling program and makes the part using standard modeling tools. It can even rent carving programs, resize them and add them to your parts.
When you are considering a CNC router, remember, the control is the single most important element. It determines what you can do, how easy it is and how productive the machine really is. With Thermwood you have the most advanced CNC control in the market

eCabinet Systems … cabinet design software at a price you can afford

Free. That’s right, it’s free, but it’s even better than that. When you join the eCabinet Systems program you joint thousands of other cabinetmakers in a buying cooperative. Through the software you can buy parts, material and supplies at a discount from leading industry suppliers. You save money, it’s easy, because the software keeps tract of what you need as you design, and whenever you purchase through the program, you help support the software. It is these purchases, rather than a high initial selling price, that pays for the software.

There are two types of cabinet design software. The first uses fixed libraries of cabinet designs. You can change sizes and configuration but basic changes in cabinet construction or assembly methods are done by the software developers and cannot be changed by the user.

The second type of design software allows the user total freedom to change how cabinets are assembled and built. This is much more flexible, but normally it is also much more expensive. eCabinet Systems is this second type of software. You have total freedom to design almost anything you want. You can even combine cabinets and other components into assemblies to develop complex cabinet systems or true furniture. And, once designed, the pieces can be machined on your CabinetShop system by just sending the design to the machine. All the intermediate steps needed to create the actual CNC program are done in the machine control, automatically.

Machine Cabinet Boxes and Furniture Cases

Your CabinetShop system offers the ultimate capability for machining cabinet boxes and furniture cases.

If you already use design software that produces CNC code, you can, of course, send these programs to your CabinetShop system and run them.

If your existing software exports DXF files for each part, as almost every system does, it might be better to send these files to the control instead, and have the control do the nesting. This lets you take advantage of the benefits of control nesting. The Thermwood control, used on the CabinetShop systems, accepts and runs DXF files from every major CAD and design program. In fact, you can nest parts from different software packages in the same job. This might also help if you want to run parts for other shop that use different software.

The files you want to run are simply selected, regardless of their origin, and nested together in a single job. For those who would rather do this selection process in the office, you can specify the files and quantity you want to run in an Excel spreadsheet and send this to the control. The control then accesses the files and does all the work without the operator being involved.

And finally, if you don’t have other design software, you can use eCabinet Systems and have an intimately integrated system, because, with Thermwood and only with Thermwood, both the design software and the control system software are developed by the same people. It just has to work together better.

Custom Profiles without Custom Tooling

The CabinetShop Series system can produce these custom profiles without special tooling.

When doing custom woodworking, you often need to produce a custom profile, a special molding shape, maybe a curved molding or a special edge on a counter. In the past this meant a special cutter, high price and wait, even if you only need one piece. Not any more.

Your CabinetShop Series system can produce these custom profiles without special tooling.

Start by designing the part in eCabinet Systems. It’s quite easy to do. Then send it to your CabinetShop machine. When the Thermwood control learns that you do not have a proper shaped tool to make the part, it automatically creates a modeling program to make the part using standard modeling tools. It uses a ball nose, flat bottom and liner tool to machine the shape by moving back and forth along the profile, shifting over a little each pass. A typical 8’ molding can be machined in 10-15 minutes this way.

Although this is slower than using a shaped tool, it is a lot faster and less expensive than waiting for a special tool, especially when you only need a few pieces.

Just think, total freedom to make any profile you want in minutes instead of days.

This is an exclusive, patent pending feature of Thermwood that offers you a valuable new capability. It is also another example of Thermwood’s design software and control software working together to achieve impressive results.

Complex Carvings without Programming

With the CabinetShop Series you can add carvings and carved details to your jobs, and it’s easy.

Normally, developing carving programs for CNC routers is a time-consuming, difficult and expensive task that requires expensive, specialized equipment. It has been totally impractical to do this for a single job, but not anymore.

Thermwood has established CNC program rental. You can now rent complex carving programs on a per-part basis, right through your Thermwood control. It typically costs $1-$5 per part to add exquisite carved detail to your custom jobs.

Rent complex carving programs on a per-part basis.

Thermwood has a growing library of carving designs available and the carvings can be resized at the control for your specific application. You can create carved moldings, door and drawer detail, carved corbels, carved legs and posts….in fact, you can add carved touches to almost anything.

This is another, patent pending feature only available from Thermwood.
