Dovetail Drawer Virgin

Post by Nick M Singer »

Did my first set of Dovetail drawers today. Used a standard setup in eCabs and machined them out of prelacquered 12mm marine ply. Besides snapping a 5mm boring bit because I managed to specify it as my female dovetail cutter I ended up with a set of perfectly usable drawers. So thanks to Thermwood we will now be offering dovetail drawers as a standard option.

Nick,

I am getting ready to run my first set. You said you left the settings alone, but did you adjust the material thickness since the 12mm material was under 1/2\".

Any other pointers you can give me before running my first set.

Hell no! I just bit the bullet and did it. The only thing I did was precoat my ply to get better hold on the table. I will pay more attention to settings from now on because my fit was a little loose

When I cut them, I don't change the settings or the material thickness. If my material is .03\" undersize from 1/2\", then I add .03\" to the dovetail daylight value. They come out pretty good for us.
I have also tried using the standard settings, but change material thickness. This works good too, but I tend to get a tighter fit from the first method.

Thanks for the responses.

If I can find a free moment today, I am going to give it shot.
