Drawer part editor ??
Hey,
Why can't we make part editor modifications to a drawer box? I'd like a drawer with a bottom inset of 15mm and then need the sides rebated underneath and on the inside by 4mm to accomodated a particular slide. I'd then like to put constraints on the rebate to accomodate for changes in drawer depth. How can I achieve this? Surely there is a need to be able to make part mods on drawers.
Also, I'm trying to located where cabinet hsf files are located/saved on my computer. I'm pulling my hair out but I must be missing something. I have no problem finding the default Thermwood pre-loaded cabinets, but my mine I cannot.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Drawer part editor ??
Your cabinet files will be in a peer directory of the Standard Cabinets. For example if Standard Cabinets are located in C:\Program Files\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\Cabinets\Standard Cabinets, your files will be in C:\Program Files\Thermwood\eCabinet Systems\Cabinets\<name of your directory>.

Dan,
I have checked that file location several times but to no evail. I have done a full search and can't find any of the folders and cabinets that I have created anywhere. May this be a security feature of Vista? Any suggestions?

Ah-Haaa!!! You didn't say you were on Vista.
Vista does not allow non-administrator users to modify the Program Files directory so it stores files in a different location than earlier versions of Windows.
Look at the Windows Vista Install sticky at the top of the forum for complete installation instructions.
Very Important: You MUST use the "Always Run as Administrator" option and you MUST set compatibility mode to Windows XP Service Pack 2. This is regardless of whether your actual user ID has administrative rights.
Until eCabinets is 100% Vista-ready, this also applies to every eCabinets update you install.

Re: Drawer part editor ??
Dan,
Because of these Vista administration issues I'm having I want to uninstall Ecabinets and then reinstall it. I have tried changing administator right but I get lost trying to nut it out. So now I'm having trouble unistalling it! I get to a certain way through the unistall process and it stalls. It gets stuck saying 'gathering required information' and the status bar barely moves. If I remember correctly this may have happened to me before running XP but a format soon fixed that. Is there any other way I can delete it? Can I just install straight over the top without deleting first?
I must say that apart from this issue, running Ecabinets on Vista has been fine.

Hmmm...if I were to hazard a guess Dale, I would say that installing over top of the current installation would try to put it in the same location and you would be back to where you are.
You can certainly give it a try though. You might have to run the installer in repair mode then run it again in remove mode.

Re: Drawer part editor ??
What about just deleting the 'Thermwood' folder in program files?

Dale,
I wouldn't delete the Thermwood folder, I think that would cause all kinds of problems. (Dan can tell you more) How about restoring the computer to a time before you installed eCabinets? (maybe Dan would know more about this also.)

What about just reinstalling Ecab's under a new name other than 'Thermwood'?

Re: Drawer part editor ??
The problem is that registry entries already exist for the current installation. These entries must be corrected before reinstalling. The easiest way to correct the entries is to reinstall to the same location then uninstall. After that is complete you can reinstall to any location (but make sure you follow the Vista install instructions at the top of the forum).

Re: Drawer part editor ??
Dan,
Uninstall was successful. Now I am following the installation steps listed in the 'Windows Vista Install' threat. I'm a bit stumped with the part about installing the 3rd party Opengl drivers. I am running an ATI RADEON X1450 graphics card. How do I go about getthing this driver?

Re: Drawer part editor ??
Is this a laptop Dale? If so (the Mobility Radeon x1450 is the only x1450 I can find) you should go to the computer manufacturer's website for drivers.
Here is what ATI has to say about it:
Here is what ATI has to say about it:
Currently AMD does not provide any driver support for Mobility Radeon™ products. All driver and technical support for Mobility Radeon™ products is provided by the original laptop or notebook manufacturer. The drivers that are available for download at ati.amd.com are for desktop products only.

Re: Drawer part editor ??
Dan,
I have made a mess of my new install. Now I want to unintall it again but as it go's throught its paces to uninstall it gives me all this 'don't have permission' messages and then the uninstall gets aborted. I can't use Ecabinets or anything. Does anyone know with Vista how to give full admin rights to a folder and everything within that folder with the change of one setting?????????

Re: Drawer part editor ??
What I would do Dale is copy setup.exe from the CD to the desktop. Right-click on it and select "Run as Administrator" then use setup.exe to uninstall.
When installing it is imperative that you set the setup program (from CD this time) to "Run as Administrator" or everything will be installed in the wrong location (which is what it sounds like has happened).
Vista places program files in a "USER\Program Files" directory where "USER" is the currently logged-on user. Only the operating system can access C:\Program Files. If you do not use the "Run as Administrator" option during setup, eCabinets will try to install in "USER\Program Files" and will not be able to access the files required to run.

Re: Drawer part editor ??
I believe there were two questions in the original posting. The Vista install question took on steam and the other question died.
Original question:
Why can't we make part editor modifications to a drawer box? I'd like a drawer with a bottom inset of 15mm and then need the sides rebated underneath and on the inside by 4mm to accomodated a particular slide. I'd then like to put constraints on the rebate to accomodate for changes in drawer depth. How can I achieve this? Surely there is a need to be able to make part mods on drawers.
Answer:
Part Editor cuts are not yet supported for drawer boxes and stretchers. I know that the programmers are aware of the need, but I don't know when that capability will exist. As many of us have learned from Version 3, it may not be as easy as just letting you make modifications, but must include what happens if you resize the part. Therefore, we have the Constraint Manager for the cabinet, so that feature would have to be incorporated in the drawers and anyother entities that you want to modify.
