Does anybody else have this problem, as shown in the attached picture, when using dado construction then taking the case to the parts editor? If i change to butt joints this problem goes away.
This has always been a problem with full dadoes. I think the way I have fixed it is to switch to blind dado construction and have a 0" front tenon inset and then set the back tenon inset to whatever length my cut was in the part editor. You can cut the "tails" off in the part editor but every time you re-generate the cabinet they will re-appear.
OK Terry you are truely the wizard, but that was an easy fix, I did as you suggested and set the back dado position to match the cut in the top and deck in to parts editor and it worked. Now I have a real test of your powers. As you may have already noticed this is an attempt to make a space corner case from a standard corner cabinet. The problem now is how do I get dados in the top and deck at the interface of the two panels I put in to support the slides?
Thanks for taking a look at my problem. In the picture I have tried to point out my specific issue. This case started as a standard corner cabinet and I have been modifying it in the parts editor to create a case for a space corner. The panels with the large cutouts are there to support the slides and I added those through the cabinet editor using just the "insert panel" option. This all works but I would really like dados at the joint between the panels and the deck and top.
You would have to take the part to the part editor, define the path for the dado and use Cut pocket using geometric shapes or Cut pocket using closed contour depending on what you used to define the dado path. The pocket would be cut the depth of your dado.
You would also have to extend the length of the other part the depth of the dado for your tenon.
Why not just make a regular cabinet with the part editor cuts? You can use stretchers for the backs in this case and they will resize with your cabinet box, unlike display panels. The only problem would be that since the stretchers are going outside of the normal area (from part to part) you can only use butt joints. If you keep the stretchers running between the deck and the top you could use blind dados.
I personally try to use stretchers where ever I can instead of the display panels. Unfortunately, for some reason you can not use stretchers between the deck and top on corner cabinets.
Thanks for the idea, I never thought of starting with a standard base then going to the parts editor, I'll give it a try.
Kerry - I thought about just cutting dados in the parts editor but I'm not sure you can create the geometry necessary in that direction. It is at a 45 degree angle and the geometry tools only go 0 or 90 degrees.
If it is on an angle you will have to define the path with the line tool in Contour.(right click and make sure you dont have Ortho checked) Then you can use Cut pocket using Closed Contour to make the dado.
