Newbie Counter Tops Question

Hello All

Just got the software.
I am building a library for built-ins.
I am wondering how to do countertops, typically we use the same ply & put a hardwood edge.
Do I make a "ctp upper" cabinet and place it between the base and the upper?
The ctp cab would be a top and a deck ( 3/4 & 3/4 ) with no sides?
Is this right?
I know that the ctp at the moment is for display only and not included in the cut list.
