Occasionally I'll do curved recepetion desks. I'll typically draw the parts in BobCad, and generate the cut files from there. I can do this resonably quickly.
As an alternative, could I modify a cabinet, or assembly in ECabinets, and use it for this purpose, or does that get too involved, and am I better off sticking with CAD for these?
I don't need to do renderings, I just need working files. I will say I would rather do it within ECabinets, if possible, as the nesting and efficiency of the post processor files are both extremely good. Thanks.
Hi, Nat. Yes, you can do radius work relatively easy in e-cabinets. Attached is a wine tasting room we did with a curved bar wall and tops. To generate the full renderings for the customer took about 10 hours but you can draw and cut the parts needed to fabricate the wall and sub tops in considerably less time. Keep thinking outside the box. This software is very powerful and you can do almost anything you want if you put your mind to it.

How would you handle something like the studs in the wall, which normally have a number of different cuts in them for wiring toekick etc? Is there a way to duplicate a part like this once you've created all the PE cuts in one? I imagine it could also be treated as a separte item and added in as a batch item in whatever quantity was needed.
Was done using display panels so all the parts would show up on the nest

I saved the geometry of the top where I could then place it on two different sheets to nest it

The cone shaped outer skin will not nest. eCabinets won't lay lay it flat. The same goes for the inner skin.
The bottom line is that eCabinets can graphically represent your curved work and for things like the basic structure of this desk it can nest the parts ok but curved stuff is very time consuming and yu won;t be able to nest all the parts tht you can draw.
Thanks very much for the replies. Where I don't need to do any type of rendering, I think what I may do, is to create each of the pieces as a separate item that I can call up as a batch. I need to look into creating curved parts, which I haven't done very much of yet, to see if it makes any sense to create the curved plates, counter substrates, etc, within ECabinets, or to keep those within CAD. Again, I do like the nesting and toolpathing within ECabinets, and will try to go this route with these parts as well. Thanks again.
