Add Blind Dado to Stretcher?
I am trying to add a light valance below the deck on a wall cabinet. It seems that when a stretcher in the vertical orientation I am not able to use a blind dado to the joint between the valance and the deck. Dados are placed on the ends as expected. Anyone have an idea what I am missing? Thanks in advance.

Re: Add Blind Dado to Stretcher?
Gary it does work, just go into the construction settings of the part in the stretcher editor and just make sure that "Top" is set to dado/ blind dado.

Nick...
Thanks for the reply and sorry for posting in the Lounge. I have tried every variation, and do have the top set to blind dado, but for some reason with a 1 1/2" stretcher, it doesnt seem to work. I will try a few more times or redesign.

Re: Add Blind Dado to Stretcher?
Gary,
Go to the stretcher Editor
Highlight your stretcher
Open Construction Settings
Open Construction Parameters for Left Right Stretcher Up/ Down orientation
Make sure the part type says left right stretcher
Under Blind Dado Tenon Settings select the Tenon Top Side radio button
If this doesn't work post your cabinet so we can look at the settings you have.

Thanks, but that was the setting that I had for the stretcher. Here is the cabinet, let me know what I messed up this time!

Kerry...
Due to the rotation of a "normal" stretcher, I guess that I can understand how the "front" settings can toggle the blind dado on what I consider the top of the part. Why is it that in order to change the tenon placement of this tenon dado, the back tenon left and right setting affect the tenon length, but the front do not?

Re: Add Blind Dado to Stretcher?
Gary,
Here is a clip from the user manual that explains (what you have already discovered) about the relationship of stretchers to the cabinet.
"Note: As long as the stretcher is perpendicular to and not positioned at an angle with another component and is also against that component, any available joinery can be specified. The joinery specified refers to directions as seen from the cabinet itself. Therefore, if you set Top to Blind Dado, a horizontal stretcher whose top edge contacts the cabinet top is given a blind dado along that edge. However, another stretcher that is positioned vertically from the top to the deck will find the top end has a blind dado joint."
I will have to play with the stretcher editor and blind dadoes a bit to find an answer to your second question. I don't use the stretcher editor much.
Maybe Dennis will give us a quick lesson.
