How would I do this?

I'm building a linen cabinet that needs to have two "backs" on it. See the attached pictures and file. The lower "back" is a REAL back in constructions settings where the upper "back" is simply a slab door put in place to simulate a back. The lower back has the construction methods I want to use - full dado top, blind dado sides, overlapping bottom. The upper back I would like to incorporate blind dad construction on all four sides.

Is there a way to do this in eCabs?

Try using a stretcher that is the same size as the opening.

1. Find the size between the left and right end and make your stretcher that size.
2. select the 2 fixed shelves and add a stretcher the width of the opening with you desired construction settings (you will need to set the default settings before adding the stretcher)
3. adjust the stretcher into place

Never occurred to me to use a stretcher. Guess that's why it's called software and not hardware...

If I understand your desire correctly, I would make the lower back with the settings you desire for joinery and you would use a top inset on this back of whatever that dimension is to the bottom of the shelf it joins. Make sure that shelf has the correct back inset to be over the back (like a top flush) Then I would create a stretcher between the two sides that is the correct width and with the proper joinery as well. It will have 0 inset from the top and back and should rest right at the top of the shelf making the "top of the hole". It should work as we have made Plasma TV cabinetry with "false backs" this way for a while now so we can get the palsma screen to the front of the cabinetry without moving in the whole back. Actually works quite well for us.
