I have a customer who does a lot of work with museums and he is interested in seeing if we can CNC topographical maps with our CS 43. Does anyone have any insight with regards to software, tooling and CNC capabilities?

Re: Topographical CNC Routing
John,
I've done some custom programming for this type of work in the past. Usually a 3D cad model is used to show the various levels in elevation, in some cases 2D CAD drawings were generated using colors to identify various levels. Eitherway, you will typically need some sort of CAD/CAM package that supports 2D and/or 3D surface/wireframe and the ability to generate a toolpath as you desire. Depending on cut type, sometimes a straight endmill works, then in some cases a ballnose type tool is needed for modeling of a 3D surface. You can contact Thermwood directly for CAD/CAM packages we offer or go to web site and look under topic "Products" to see what we offer:
