I need a formula to calculate the radius cuts for the skin on the clipped corners of this vent hood. ( I just scribe the pieces now)

Kerry, do you know sketchup? I recently found out that it has the ability to unfold parts just like that and lay them flat. I'll see if I can find the video and post it here for you....

I played with Sketchup before Google took it over but is was just a toy back then.

I would still like to find a formula so I don't have to learn and draw in a secondary software.

Yep, it appears Sketchup is certainly more than a toy now! I wish I had it about eight years ago when I was making conical radius front reception desks regularly.
Just to be clear, that was not my Jing - I stole it from another forum that I frequent. The whole thread was great but I can't copy the whole thing unfortunately. The gentleman who posted it also had some photos of the final product and it really looked great with almost no fuss at all. He even cut the miters on the CNC as well so it was almost brainless.
Now I have to learn Sketchup because I don't know the formulas either Kerry!

Josh, what is the plugin you are using to do the flattening operation where you take the panels and taken them from 3D to flat panels? I don't see an icon that looks like that (or are you use Pro version?).

That plugin looks like flattery and you don't need pro for most plugins, check out sketchucation forums for download. If you want to make dxf files from it you'll either need pro, additional plugins or install an older version of sketchup (7 I think?) and google still has a dwg/dxf plugin for free last time I checked.

Hey Donald,
As mentioned, that wasn't my Jing - so I really don't know if there was a plugin involved or not, in fact I don't even have sketchup installed here. I had just read that thread on another forum, coincidentally with Kerry's post so I thought I'd share the video. I'll see what else I can find out for you...

Kerry, if this is a true arc, you can certainly find the panel size if you know the chord length and the rise. From those two you can find the radius, then the circumference, then you can determine the % of the circumference you are using and get the length of the panel. But I maybe don't fully understand your question either....
