Problems with a Dado

Post by Pedro Ghio »

Hello and good day,

I apologize if this isnt the right place for this kind of threads and my not perfect english.

Im fairly new to eCabS and im watching the video tutorials, i dont know if he covered the part where i have the issue or not, there are a lot of videos, but i hope you can resolve my problem.

Im trying to build a cabinet with faceframes with a full dado on them, the top faceframe part was no problem since it was the top face, not a stretcher, but the right and left faceframes i cant make a full dado with a stretcher and the top face, my question is, how can i construct a full dado in a faceframe with a stretcher. Or is there another way to do what im trying to do?

I attached fotos of the cabinet so you can see my problem and the type of cabinet im constructing.

Thanks in advance.

Is This What you are wanting? If so under Construction settings select the top tab then under construction set the front to blind dado then go into top construction parameters ant set the blind dado thickness to 100% and select tendon top side adjust the Placements as needed.

I tried what you said and saw no change at all, maybe i didnt explained myself quite well.

I want the fulldado that my top face is making on the top faceframe to affect the right and left faceframes too, like in the picture.

And i have another question, is there someway that i can apply a fulldado with a stretcher on a faceframe?

Hope i could make myself more clear and if your answer was correct, ill keep trying messing with those parametters.

Thanks for your help Scott

To do that you will have to take the stile into part editor and create a pocket. Instead of the settings that I suggested use full dado instead.

Thanks a lot Scott, yeah, i had to make the cuts with the part editor and it ended up just like i wanted, but i have another question, hope its the last one.

I made the cuts on the faceframes on the part editor, saved the cabinet, etc. Then that same cabinet, i modifed the proportions, all the cuts that i made on the left side were the same, no problem, but on the right side the cuts got all messed up, and i dont know why. If it ocurred on both sides i could guess that you cant modify the proportions and expect the cuts made where OK, but just the right side getting messed up?

Hope you can answer this doubt and thanks.

You Will need to apply constraints to the part editor cuts in the constraints editor

Pedro,

I'm assuming that you are going to cut the face frames out of sheet goods, but whether it is sheet goods or solid materials, you might consider just using the full dado joinery method on only the left and right stiles of the face frame. Less machining; no need to edit the part in Part Editor and you wouldn't need to use the Constraint Manager. A lot simpler overall, if it does what you need it to.
