Drilling operations on part editor geometry

I have created 5mm holes for concealed drawer slides on the backs of my drawer boxes with the part editor.

Is there a way to get the Shopbot Link to recognized these are 5mm holes and use a 5mm drill to punch them in the drawer box parts instead of needing a router bit to make the holes?

Yes. In the SB Link you need to set up an operation tool that is set to only Drill and is set to the correct diameter. That's it!

Tried that and it doesn't work. Seems it goes back to the Part Editor in eCabs. If you great a cut geometry, it will come thru as a part that needs to be routed, not drilled. I would like the concealed drawer slide holes on the backs of my drawer boxes to be drilled, not routed.

How would I create the holes so they will be recognized to be drilled and not pocketed?

This is done all the time, so I just need to see what you are doing and the settings that are used. Please send the cabinet or job you are creating the twd from, the twd itself, and an export from Shopbot Link and I will look into it for you. It may be best to email them to cabinets@thermwood.com (make sure you put attn: Scott in the subject line).

Daniel has been looking into this for me. He has the exports and hsf file for my drawer boxes. If you can't get them from him I can send them to you.

Bit of a shot in the dark, but in the Link did you list the tool with the 5mm drill bit ahead of the router bit that it's currently selecting to drill the holes? Thought being that the software would see this option first and use the drill bit vs. the router bit.

I am set up with all my router bits listed first then three sizes of drills bits listed after the router bits.

I find it interesting that when cutting cabinets parts with 1/4" shelf pin holes, the Link always uses the 1/4" drill bit and not the 1/4" router bit. There must be something within eCabs that will tell the nesting routines to use a drill bit instead of a router bit. I just need to figure out what that magic bullet is. Then I can change my drawer boxes so the Link uses the drill bit instead of the the router bit.

Don,
The holes in the back of your drawer boxes are .2362" in diameter! You do not have a drill set up to handle this. You either need to add a drill at .2362" dia. or make your holes .25" in diameter in the part editor.

They are ~6mm.

Wow, I apologize to everyone. I thought they had been set at 5mm. I must be loosing my marbles.

I will setup a 6mm bit in my tooling and that should take care of it. I'm so sorry if I inconvenienced anyone with this....
