problem with V5 cabinets in V6

Post by Peter Unger »

I need to know if I am having problems due to my ignorance about V6 or are there glitches that need tending to?

I tried creating a small job with V6 (two bathrooms). I can get everything into custom layout even with changing the cabinet dimensions first. If I take a cabinet out of custom layout to edit it, I can edit it but an error always appears ("error setting outline data", I think?). The cabinet will then revert back to it's original state or ecabs will get stuck on the error message and I'm forced to hit control, alt, delete to end task without saving. The only thing that has worked is to take a library cabinet, edit it as needed and save it. Then I can take it into custom layout without needing to take it out to edit it. Very time consuming.

Some other things that I noticed is that it took 8 minutes to open this small job and it took 3 minutes to resize one cabinet width. In V5 it took about 10 seconds to open a job this size. Rendering pulls has also become much more time consuming.

I love this software. I'm just trying to understand how I could use it more efficiently and effectively. Do I need to re-install V5 for now? Can I? Do I need to re-create my whole library using V6 seed cabinets?
Thanks
Pete

Well, there are a number of things in the software that are a bit different, like placing of objects and the hardware database. There are also a number of bugs yet to be found, reported and fixed. One cure-all that you need to remember is that if you have a cabinet box that acts up you should select the cabinet in the cabinet editor and then run the Remove PartEditor Cuts from Entire Cabinet command. This will reset the cabinet to it's basic state. It will not however fix all problems, but it corrects a lot of them.

The new version does unfortunately seem quite a bit slower.
