Hand Held Controller

We are in the process of ordering a Thermwood Model 45. One of the options is a hand held controller and we need to decide if this is necessary or not. I'm hoping for some feed back regarding this option. TIA

Yeah, you pretty much need it for manually moving around the machine in an efficient way. It would be a real pita without it.

Nicholas, we ordered our CS45 without one to trry and save some money and within a month or two ended up buying a hand held. We don't use it that often but it is vital to have it when you do need it. I suggest you get it.

Unless things have changed sence we got ours you can't fly cut with out it.Or maby there might be another way some one else knowes of.

We also think the HH controller is a must, but we wrote a program to flycut. We don't need the HH to do that.

With the latest control, flycutting is a complete automated process and the HHP is not a requirement to do this. Also, with the new automated method, you do not even need to re-measure the daylights of your tooling after a flycut. You normally do not have to ever re-measure a tool unless you physically change it.

(HHP or not??) You can absolutely move the machine directly from the control's screen, but it make it harder to dial in exactly to something when you have to walk back and forth (to see if you are touching, then back to the screen to move, then repeat this process). If you have a buddy help you by being your eyes, it can make it some what easier. So, if you ever need to manually get a daylight, or need to re-set your pop-up pin locations, re-set the switchspoil value, or define a new fixture position that you personally created on the table, or hand trace a part, then it makes the HHP very handy to have. The HHP simply lets you get right at the location that you are trying to dial into. Not a necessity, but indeed a very handy tool to have when needed.

The flycut system I mentioned was introduced in the Gen2 SuperControl at version 7.4.1 and is of course available in the new Q-Core SuperControl.
