Help with Global Item Modifications in my Library

Post by Scott Marshburn »

So I am experimenting with the new Global Item Modifications feature. I am trying to use this feature to change the materials on existing cabinets in a new library and sub directory. Here are the steps that I took.

1) Made a new folder called Global change test. Added a sub directory named Seed cabinets
2) Opened Standard cabinets folder and clicked on select all.
3) Clicked on Adj. features. Clicked on Global Item Modification.
4) Selected apply to files
5) Selected standard cabinets for source directory.
6) Selected Global change test directory and selected sub directory Seed cabinets and clicked ok. All of the cabinets were transferred to the new directory
7) Made a new sub directory in Global change test named maple.
8.) Opened seed cabinet folder and loaded the Std. Base Framed cabinet in cabinet editor
9) Selected adj. features, clicked on Global item Modifications
10) Changed the sheet stock, Banding stock and board stock to a maple material.
11) Under Item Options. I selected Apply to files
12) In the source directory I selected Global change test and the sub directory Seed Cabinets.
13) In the Output Directory I selected Global change test and the sub directory named maple.
14) Clicked ok. The cabinets were transferred to the maple sub directory but the material was not changed

Is there something that I am missing?

Did you specify that 3/4 Generic changed to the Maple material? Once cabinets/assemblies have been saved in build 15, you can use the populate button to get the materials used the cabinets/assemblies currently loaded or the materials use in the files specified.

Thanks Rick for the prompt reply. I did specify that ¾ Generic changed to Maple by using the populate button. However after reading your post I figured out what I was doing wrong. I was loading an actual cabinet from the newly saved “Seed Cabinets” that I had, then used the populate button and changing the materials. Then I went into the Item options tab and selected my directories. It did transfer the cabinets but with the original materials. So instead of loading a cabinet into the cabinet editor. I first selected my directories and used the populate button, changed the materials then everything worked great.
Thanks for your help.

So I guess that there is no way to use Global Item Modifications to edit the newly created directories. After I was able to get the Maple material on the cabinets in the new sub directory “Maple” I tried to change the doors and drawer fronts in this directory. But could not do so. I wound up having to select the “Seed Cabinet” directory as the source and the “Maple” directory as the Output. Then change the materials again and this time the doors and drawer fronts.
