Wrong drawer sides lengths

Post by Steve Unruh »

We have intermittent problems with drawer sides being incorrect lengths (different from what should be computed from the inset). We have tried various approaches to the issue but without permanent success.

I will give our drawer settings first.

We use blum undermount rails and need a 21-inch drawer. Thus, we use a 3" inset on the drawer length, a .8125 top inset, and a .3125 side inset. We have a default drawer set up, which we choose and install the drawer. Everything is fine, and the drawer side length is correct until We install an upper cabinet with an inset back, inset at .74, with a stretcher on the back. Drawers in lowers placed after editing the uppers with inset backs will be incorrect, with a drawer side length of 20.26 inches. We think the .26 is related to the .74 of the inset to the upper back, as those two are added together to equal the integer 1.
We've tried this on five different machines. Thinking that something was corrupted in some of our custom cabinets and drawer files, I tried this using Thermwood's seed cabinets and drawer and got the same result.
This has been very frustrating to the guys in the shop!

Could someone please try to get the results we do?

If someone from Thermwood reads this, do you have any ideas??

Steve,

There are a lot of variables that can play into drawer box size calculation. Can you post one of your cabinets without the back inset and one with the inset? You can add both to a batch job and post it. If you do not want to post them on the forum, can you email them to cabinets@thermwood.com? If you email, just reference this post so I can match it all up.

Clint, I've attached a test file. The cabinets on the left-hand side of the wall were placed lower and upper before placing an upper with a recessed back. For the cabinets on the right-hand side, I first put the upper with the recessed back and then placed the lower. I then edited the upper, returned it to the wall, and placed the drawers in the lower drawer unit. The drawers on the left have a 21-inch side, and the drawers on the right have a 20.26-inch side.

Steve,

The software engineer found an issue where in specific scenarios the cabinet back thickness would not get cleared out of the variables and would be applied to other cabinets when loaded. This should be corrected for the next release of eCabinets, which should be in the next few days.

Thanks Clint
That is good news! We'll download it and put it to the test. I wonder if this is what has been plaguing us for the last several years. We could just never put an evaluation on some part that was repeatable. I first posted in 2022 about this issue. Thanks again!

Steve,

Let's just say its been around a very long time. You just happened to catch the cabinet saved in the state between so we had something to look at, repeatability is always a thing to get fixes in. Simply restarting eCabinets would clear the issue if you were seeing it in the moment. ECabinets was holding on to a specific variable that is used in drawer box depth calculation that wouldn't get cleared until the software was closed.
