Repair program from CD

Post by Michael Yeargain »

I have been trying to get rid of the former cabinet directories I created and have since then deleted. Somehow they are still in the data base.

So I inserted the V5.1 CD and checked repair and it started repairing, However, before it finishes it askes to insert disc 1. Clicking OK does nothing and clicking cancel rolls back the process.

How do I reset e_cabinets to it's original state as though I just installed it without removing and reinstalling?

I sure am feeling real stupid this morning. :fire:

You can just delete the directories in Windows Mike. When you restart eCabinets they will not longer appear. Any files in those directories that you have opened recently will still be on the \"Recent Files\" list of the \"File\" menu but will disappear as you open other files.

I realize this but the names are somehow still in the save dialog. If I remove all the directories which I have done, open a cabinet and save this cabinet, I can see all the directories still in the drop down menu.

Although I can not see them in Windows Explorer the data base does not update. I have always had this problem.

Any thought?

Hmmm...you have eCabinets closed when you delete, right? I don't have this problem. If I delete a directory it does not show up any more.

One other question...doe you actually DELETE them (shift-delete) or just move them to the recycle bin? I don't know if that would make a difference or not, but I always use shift-delete to delete files.

I've never heard of shift delete. Is this a direct delete? don't pass go don't collect a dime type function?

I do close e_cabinets each time and the deleted files go to la la land because they aren't in my trash can.

if you just press the delete key by itself, the file is not deleted but moved to the recycle bin. If you use shift-delete it is deleted.

Did you restore from an eCabinets backup after reinstalling? The directory names are not stored in the eCabinets database.

No I didn't restore, infact come to think about it I removed and reinstalled e_cabinets, and the 2 vintage cabinets I made before I removed and reinstalled were still there. They should have been removed with the uninstall, right?

After you uninstall, make sure the entire eCabinets directory tree (C:\\Program Files\\Thermwood) has been deleted. If not, delete it before reinstalling (use shift-delete on the Thermwood directory).

Edited to remove regedit info...Dan Epps

Reboot and reinstall eCabinets and you should be back to square one with just the standard cabinets and materials.

Any unneeded directories in your eCabinets backup directory should be deleted before restoring.

Removing the program, deleting the thermwood directory did the trick. I couldn't find any recurences of e_cabinets in the regedit Users or otherwise. But I got it.

Thanks Dan.

Some programs actually remove registry entries when uninstalled, most don't. Looks like the Thermwood programmers wrote a good uninstall script.

Glad your back on the road Mike. You might want to send Jason an email to reset your license count since you had to reinstall a couple of times. No need for them to be charged for unused licenses.
