Rick,

I currently run the software on an e_machine 64 bit 3200 machine. It does work on this machine with no complications but that's not to say it will run on any other m64 bit machine.

Computers are temperamentally insane and you just don't know which ones work until you try. :wall:

Thanks.

Dan,

I am currently running 64 bit Windows XP on this machine with no problems. I will install another 1 gig this week because of the beta testing. It seems that the machine I have now (purchased 3 years ago is becoming a bit slow for the software but it does what I need. I can't add any hardware to my jobs without significant performance loss.

But it runs fine otherwise.

Michael,

What is the relationship between adding 1GB memory and Beta Testing? I am missing something... :(

The reason I bring it up: Beta testing has not caused me any problems. But, again, I must miss something.

Al,

It isn't making any diffenence in that respect. I only have 1G Ram now and the future versions will (I presume) require additional resources. You can never go wrong by adding more memory.

I didn't mean to mislead you into thinking there was a difference.

Are you sure about that Mike? Microsoft never released Windows XP Professional x64 as a stand-alone product and the only OEM partners for it are Alienware, Dell, HP and IBM.

eMachines systems came with Windows XP Home Edition which was always a 32bit version. They (eMachines) were purchased by Gateway in 2004 and later by Acer in 2007 and none of them were ever licensed to OEM Windows XP Professional x64.

Just because the system has a 64bit CPU does not mean that it has Windows x64.

I guess I am so very wrong.

And you are correct.

It is the Home edition. And the software was already installed on the machine. However I formatted and reinstalled XP using a boot disk at least twice since I have had the system. Due to operator error of course.

You're not the first to make that mistake Mike. You wouldn't believe how many folks I've heard swear they were using a 64bit operating system because they had a 64bit processor.

I was beginning to wonder about the XP x64 myself, because I'm definitely using 64-bit Vista and memory consumption is way beyond 1GB. In fact, 2GB is to Vista x64 what 1GB is to Vista x86 (nowhere near enough). I've got 4GB memory and am constantly flirting with 3GB used and am beginning to wonder if 4GB is enough.

Dean,

Is that memory requirement a results of the Vista OS? Or is that just what we will have to have (shortly) to run this next version of the software?

Thanks

So I'm assuming there's no advantage with a 64 bit system?

That, in my opinion, is a good assumption. The only thing a 64bit OS will do is allow more memory to be addressed. However, 32bit applications are still limited to the same amount of memory addresses as they would be in a 32bit OS.

Dean I'm sure can answer that question.

Although I know you will see an increase in performance, if you install a better graphics card. Unless of corse, you havn't already done so.

I cannot answer any questions about Version 5.x on Vista x64 because it's not certified to run, plus, I can't get it to run. Version 6 is in development and will definitely have Vista x86 certification, but Vista x64 is up in the air.
