Shop Drawings

Hey Guys,
I am just learning the line drawing editor and I realized that I dont know how professional shop drawings are laid out. Is there someone out there that could post a couple \"typical\" shop drawings that I could emulate? I would very much appreciate it. I need to know what kinds of information should be on the page, and what layout people are used to. This would be for individual cabinets as well as a wall elevation.

Mike,
Depends on what you are talking about as far as shop drawings. If your talking residential and you guys are installing, a couple notes about anything special, height width and depth, sink and appliance locations for the mechanical people will usually work. Now if your talking about commercial shop drawings that architects want for approval, that is another story. I usually put money in the budget and have a profesional detailer do them for me, it takes more time than I have to do this type of shop drawing..

I am talking about residential. What I was after was really more of the formating aspect. What it looks like on a page and if there are accepted norms for doing it. I was putting the info on the page and wondering if I was doing it like everyone else or if mine looked too busy or confusing or something. The overall apperance I guess is what I am trying to say.

I've just begun doing shop drawings, and was a bit apprehensive about whether or not they looked 'professional'. However, after trying out a few looks, and submitting them to a cabinet company (reseller) who in turn showed them to the builder, his carpenters and the homeowner, I got great feedback. Basically, what my drawings may lack in standardization I more than make up for with my knowledge of how things are built and will work in the field (as opposed to an architect or CAD operator).

Below is one of the drawings I produced in eCabs Line Drawing Editor.

Thanks. It's a .dxf file that I load into the LDE so I don't have to guess on layout. If memory serves me correctly, someone shared it with the forum awhile back in a similar discussion.

If you have a drawing I can get from you corporately I can convert it to a DFX and all you have to do is inport that DXF into the LDE.

I will do a generic one for landscape and portrait.
