dxf files export

I am working with an architect now, and he mentioned it would be great if I would send him the dxf file so he can build the house around the kitchen.
He uses chief architect pro
I searched the forum for dxf and seemed to find out how to IMPORT but I don't know how to export,
do I zip, or can I save as _____dxf
I have never tried anything like this.
please help, thank you very much

You can only import dxf files to eCabinets. There is no option to produce a file that is compatible with any other program or CNC machine.

so I am unable to save as and export dxf files of a job, or 3d images he can copy and paste in his program.
I noticed in the file tab there is an export section, but it is greyed out.

Well, the architect needs to design the house first! Building a house around cabinets is like building the roof, then the walls and floors before digging the foundation.

Justin,
You can send dimensioned line drawings of the layout and wall elevations for the architect to use to create his drawings but there is no easy way for him to simply copy and past the drawings.

Justin,
Take the room into the drawing editor and dimension everything (you may want to use more than one view). Print those out, or save to a file; then, send him some jpgs of the presentation images of the kitchen from views which match the dimensioned drawings.
He should be able to survive very nicely from that info since that is pretty much all he has to work with from many other suppliers.
He may be trying to avoid some design work.

can we export dxf in the future?
that would be awsome.
by the way he is not literally building the kitchen first. I have been doing good with the line drawings, I just want to share file from programs to ease the both of us. I could use the cheif architect program myself and forget ecab until I nail down the layout, then ecab it. but thats..........
mabey some day we can share.

I hate to speak for Thermwood but I doubt there will ever be .dxf exports from eCabinets because this would allow owners of other machines the ability to cut parts using this free software.

Actually Kerry, you don't have to speak for Thermwood--they have already said that before in the forum. In fact, I believe Ken Susnjara is the one who said that in one thread.

thank you guys for the replies on my question. that is a good point about not making dxf files.
that is ok,
the program is great in so many different aspecs, like the software, and this forum, the professional advise ,etc.....

Your comment on not designing the house around the kitchen can be easily debated against. Let's start with Form Follows Function. You design the space to fit the clients needs, right? How many times have you heard of someone adding onto the house to enlarge a kitchen? How many times you or your client said, I wish this kitchen was shaped differently, so we could use ________(fill in the blank) in the kitchen?
