Hey Kerry........BdFt

When you updated your Board stock, did you just input the Cost in and ignore the other fields? Also, I have jobs pending developed before 5.1. Would you advise leaving the board stock section alone until I get status on these?

Jeff,
No, I am going to update all of the feilds so that I have just two board stock materials to choose from. This will simplify things in the future. I have found that when changes come in the software that is the time to bite the bullet and update all of my stuff.
I have two materials so that I can have contrasting textures in my presentation drawings. If everything is one texture it makes it hard to see details.
I have over 500 cabinets to update.

That's alot of cabinets! So basically what your saying is that if you delete all the board stock and go to your system, you have to update every cabinet in the software. Including the ones already in jobs?

I'm guessing that after this is done, you'll have to change textures & prices as you load each customers job, rght?

Jeff,
I don't change the materials on completed jobs. I use three computers for eCabinets and I keep one with the previous version of the software to run these jobs on until that version times out. This way I don't have to update all of my jobs in progress or completed jobs. I quit using any cabinets from previous jobs because this tends to bring problems from earlier versions of the software into the new version. I try to update my libraries and fix any cabinets that had problems and just use the library cabinets.
Badically I have my main computer with the latest version to create new jobs,
I have another computer with the previous version to finish jobs in progress and to look at finished jobs,
and another computer with the latest version that I use for other members cabinets and jobs that I download to help fix problems etc. so I don;t have all of the imported materials and such on my working computer.
Hope this makes sense.

Kerry, what do you mean when the other version times out? does that mean if I don't upgrade 5.0 it will at some point stop working? I have updated but was wondering?
Another thing probably for another post is I understand the concept for each cab having it's own settings but is there a way for say a library under construction to have global settings. It would save tons of time in re-entering the same data.

Greg,
At some time version 5.0 will no longer function and everyone will have to use Version 5.1
If eCabinets didn't do this they would still be providing support for version 1 and trying to address problems of all the version instead of concentrating on the latest version and future improvements.
Some people don't like to upgrade (as Ken says in the member magazine #3) because they are afraid of the \"bugs\", but it is far better to jump in with both feet and address the problems right at the first and move on. There will always be bugs with every build of every version of every software. It is just a fact of life.

As for the global entry, I don't think so. I think we just have to bite the bullet and work through it. The software will function OK with your multiple material widths, it just looks at Oak 2\" X 3/4 and Oak 3\" X 3/4 as two separate materials and will display them in the material summary as two materials. I want mine to be shown as Oak 3/4.

I tried changing the top rail material on page two of face frames then copying and pasting to the other frame parts to simplify the task of changing material. It doesn't work in the first build of 5.1 but Scott said they would look into fixing this so it would work for a future build. This will really speed things up.

Kerry - I'm not following in page two of the face frame editor why you were trying to copy and paste...can you not use the \"all\" buttons and then edit the width if necessary?

Mark,
The all button changes the width settings of all of your face frame components as well as the materials. Some of my cabinets have 5\" stiles, an 8\" top rail and 3\" bottom rails etc. I would have to re-enter all of this information if I use the all button. I want to be able to just change the material. It would be nice to have an \"All\" button for materials that didn't affect the component width settings.

Kerry,

Do you redo your seed library from 5.0 to 5.1 as well?
Do you update the library you have on the sharing program for other users to update?

Jean,
Yes I am in the process of upgrading all of my Libraries to a single face frame material. I will be updating the libraries in production sharing but I am not sure how Thermwood plans to handle updates for those that purchased libraries. I don't know if they can download my updates or if they will be responsible for updating their own libraries. If they have made changes to the libraries and use my updates they will lose all the changes they have made.
