Anyone having fit clearance issues?

Post by Sebastien Boileau »

I've noticed the last few jobs we did the fit on the parts are really tight. I'm using ecab v.1 build 1 and RN v. 5.13.
checked all my bit diameters and daylights and everything adds up.

Sebastien,

First of all, you will need to update you ecab software to the latest version(V5.1 Build 2). Next, update your Control Nesting to latest version (V5.23). Both of these update are available on line at http://www.thermwood.com, view menu system at your left for appropriate topic. Then, if you'll notice in THM Forum Posting, Post subject: Fit clearances not machining on drawers, there are fit clearances that will be addressed in next eCab update.

Ryan, done and done....Updated both programs, tested a piece with a fit clearance in ecab of .025\" and i'm ending up with .006\", this isn't working, something is way off. Previous jobs were fine, we havent changed anything and all of a sudden something is wrong. I even cut my test part in 5/8\" mdf so there would'nt be any material shedding and it's still tight, so you can imagine how the melamine pieces fit together, they dont! So right now we setup a router table and passing all the dados through it.
Again, I checked my tool diameters and daylights, resurfaced my spoilboard and the fit is still not corresponding with what I put in ecab.
Does anyone else have or has had this problem before? Any feedback is appreciated since I've lost my entire day trying to diagnose the problem....

Something i'd like to add to my previous post. This afternoon I did a test by cutting a cabinet with a 0 fit clearance with 5/8\" mdf and then measured the dado and tenon with a digital micrometer and found that I do not have 0\" fit clearance but rather -.010\"..... so I checked my bit diameter again and again and it was correct.
So I removed .010\" from my 1/4\" bit diameter in the tool setup and ran the test again and now I have 0\" fit clearance.
So what could be off .010\"??

Sebastien,

You will need to send me some files for us to get to the bottom of this. I will need an esj file that has a cabinet in it that causes this issue. I will also need the .cab file created by using the export button at the bottom of the Control Nesting main screen. The last file I will need is the actual CNC file that is stored in the \"D:\\Data\\rolling nest\\cnc files\" directory. If you can email these 3 files to program@thermwood.com ,attention Daniel, I will start looking into your issue.

ah crap....sorry for having wasted your time guys, turns out it was just a dull bit even though it was new....I changed all the bits and the fit seems to be okay now, I still dont have the fit clearance that I enter in ecab but I guess it's just related to the melamine shedding.
Thanks anyways for the feedback guys!
