Can't save line drawings

Post by Jeff Christenson »

Hello fellow cabinet builders. I have been having trouble saving the line drawing of the custom layouts. The program produces a great looking layout of the room but when I try to save it the program wil stop responding. I then have to end the program thus loosing my drawing. As soon as I click the save icon the program freezes up. I usually use controll alt delete to end it, but today I decided to just let it go for a while. After a couple of hours in the shop I returned to my office to find an error message that says there is not enough memory. This machine is a Dell XPS 400 with a G Force 6800 256 Mb Vieo card and 3 Gigs of RAM. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been learning the program for a year by myself and finally had to ask a question, sorry it was so long.
Thank YOu , Jeff Christenson

Hi Jeff...

You must be doing very well to have gone without needing the forum for so long...

Regarding the out of memory error...if you search this forum you will find a number of posts regarding the same problem. It seems to be a problem especially with the LDE.

At this point, I'm not sure what will help - possibly reducing the line resolution before saving could be helpful...maybe someone else experiencing the same problem will jump in with a suggestion or two for you as well.

Mark, Thank you for your input. I do not know what LDE is all about but I will try searching for memory error. And also the line resolution as well.

Thanks again, Jeff Christenson

Thank You, I did a search on the memory problem. I deleted the doors, drawers, countertops and appliances and took my custom layout to the \"LDE\" to make a layout with diminsions of the cabinets and was able to save. I think before there was just to many items for the computer to keep track of. This is a big kitchen for me, 27 cabinets. Thanks again!
I think making the line resolution smaller helped as well.

Rick...thanks for the assist!

Glad to help Jeff...the line editor is a great benefit - hope they will be able to resolve the memory problem, having to go back and modify things in order to be able to save a drawing is a pain.

Keep in mind that the LDE adds huge amounts to job file size. I find the best way to deal with this is to delete all drawings that are completed and printed out. You can always make another one since you have the job and cabinet saved. I keep no more than 2 drawings in my job file at any time and with only 512 meg in RAM, have no problems with this. My jobs run on an average, about 16 cabinets.

Hey, thanks to all of you guys, it is nice to know that there is help from experienced users like you at my fingertips. I have some other questions that I would like to post. I am learning this program one step at a time and am starting to use it for cut lists. It is a wonderfull program and has helped me sell several kitchens, built ins and mantels. I am thinking about posting some images to \" show off\" my work. I have spent alot of time in front of this computer and am as proud of my images as I am of the real projects. Thank you for your time I know it is valuable, if your like me you put 50 to 60 hours a week into building cabinets. My goal is to actually design somthing and have a member make it for me, like a carving in a valance or somthing. I still build all of my own doors and drawers but would like to add something special somday. Thanks again!

Hey Jeff....

go ahead and post some of your work (images as well as photos of completed projects) ...we all would love to see it!

I'm working on a library at the moment which has a number of carvings, my own as well as from the eCabinets carving library. I will be posting those in the next couple of weeks.

Let me know if you would like any carvings, I'd be happy to help.

Carvings

Post by Jeff Christenson »

Thanks Mark, I did post two of my images last night. I will post one that I have a picture to go along with it as well. As far as the carvings, is there more to choose from than what is in the ecabinet software? If thats the case than where do you get them and how do I get it to you? No hurry on the reply, I am just educating my self so when the time comes I will know what to do. Do you own a CNC ?

Thanks, Jeff Christenson

Hi Jeff...

Yes I have a CS45-510 machine with 12 tool positions and a rotatary \"c-axis\" playback unit. So we can produce anything on the eCabinet's site.
http://www.thermwood.com/twood_site/pag ... 10_pop.htm

I also use Artcam for my own design work...I'm still reasonably new at artcam, however it's a very powerful program for carvings and I done some pretty complex things.

In addition to those two I have purchased some carvings from other internet sites which I have been pleased with.

The library we're now building has a variety of carvings, including fluting and we are also cutting all but one of the moldings for the job. It's fun to be able to create some truly custom pieces.

Machines

Post by Jeff Christenson »

Mark, that sounds really cool. I wish I could see it all in action. Somday I think me and Jerry( my one employee) will drive down to the Thermwood site in Indiana and look at those machines. Its all very overwhelming to me because my shop is very small ( 1000 sq ft) and we dont even own a shaper yet. We have made hundreds of doors with three good router tables. This cabinet gig just kinda took off about three years ago and I am slowly buing machines. Some day I would like to talk serious to you about providing me with some of your products. Check the customer images, I am posting some pictures of one of my kitchens. Thanks again!
