Framed Glass Door

Post by Nick M Singer »

I have been using eCabs for a good while now but still can not see how to make a framed glass door. Yes I know it is possible to do it in the Conestoga range but not in the Thermwood door options and in Conestoga you are limited in timber choices. You can specify glass as the panel material but it still comes up in wood. I also notice that the non Thermwood door settings are greyed out, so if you are making your doors in- house you can not adjust the rails and stiles from this menu. What am I missing or is this facility not fully developed yet?

If you just want to change the look of the door material here is a way to do it. You can do any sort of image you like from wall paper to stone.

Select an image of the material you wish to use. For instance, you could pick any of the wood images from the materials/SR-Wood directory. Copy this image to the Doors/Finishes/(species) directory and also the materials/(species) for whatever species you wish. For example, put it into the “hard maple” directories in BOTH the “Doors/Finishes/hard maple” directory AND also the “materials/hard maple” directory. Now, viewing the jpg files in those directories as thumbnails pick one of the finishes that you probably won’t use (like Heather Blue) and rename the files to add “old” to the name. Rename your replacement finish color file to be the name of the file you are replacing, for instance “heatherblue 15sheen.jpg”. Now when you go to create door using any of the Conestoga styles you can pick your new finish and get the look you want with a glass panel if you wish.

I have attached an image of a wall papered door.

Hi Joe. that is a pretty sneaky work-around. I take it from the silence in the Thermwood camp that there is no \"proper\" way to do this in the door editor?
