Drawer Height question

I make my own dovetail drawers. They need to be made in increments of 1/4\" on the inch, 3 1/4\", 4 1/4\", 7 1/4\" etc. I set up the drawer profile for minimum height increment of 1\" and I have made my standard drawer at 3 1/4\". I assumed it would increase by 1\" increments from there. But my drawers end up being on the inch, 3\", 4\", 7\" etc. How do I set it up correctly.

Unfortunately I don't think the software cares what dimensions you put in the Drawer Box editor for your drawer box design, except for things like dado depth and material thickness. When you add a drawer with a drawer front the drawer dimensions are determined by the values you input in the Construction Settings. Minimum increment for the height is not connected to the height value you enter in the Drawer Box editor. I generally start placing my drawers from the top of the cabinet box. I use 100mm (about 4\") for my Minimum Height value and then my drawer height comes in at 100mm for a 157mm front. If I use a front of something like 285mm the box comes out to 200mm. If for some reason I wanted the box to be 225mm I would adjust the Minimum Height increment when placing the drawer front.

For your situation I would suggest that you use a minimum of 3 1/4\" for your shallow drawers, and adjust this value individually as required.

I do think that it would be a good idea to have it setup to have a fixed drawer box height entry much like you can enter the height of the doors and fronts.

Hi Joe,
I have tried a few things but I can't figure out how to force the software to accept a drawer dimension (height) that is not even inches. Every thing I try ends up 3, 4, 7 etc. How do I force the software to make a 4 1/4\" drawer. Thanks.

Change the minimum increment to 1/4\" and that should take care of it. The way I understand it, minimum increment is how much the drawer will grow when the opening is larger than the current drawer plus the minimum increment, thus, a 1\" increment allows drawers to grow only in 1\" increments.

I know it sounds like a 3 1/4\" drawer should grow to 4 1/4\" using a 1\" increment but it can only be in increments of 1\" if that makes sense.

This is probably one of the most confusing areas in eCabinets.

As I understand what you want to do changing the Minimum Height Increment to 1/4\" is not going to do it for you. This will give you drawer heights anywhere from N.0\" to N.75\". You are going to have to enter a minimum height increment based on the size of your drawer front as I tried to explain in the previous message. If you have a drawer front that's say 6\" you probably want to set the min height increment to 4 1/4\". If it's 8\" you might set it to 6 1/4\" or whatever value you like. For this case you can't just set the minimum and have it cover all of your drawer box heights because you are looking for the height to be N\" + 1/4\".

I think the easiest way to get what you want is to turn drawer placement into a two step process.
Use the Drawer Box editor to actually place the drawer boxes in the cabinet then un-check \"Add Drawer Box with Drawer Front\" in the Door Drawer editor and use that to place just the fronts.
By using the Drawer Box editor to place th drawers you can provide left and right insets to accommodate your slides and the bottom inset to place the box in the opening, then just tell the software what height box you want in that opening.
After placing the drawer boxes you can then place your drawer fronts using the Door/Drawer editor just the way you want them without affecting your drawer boxes.

I think Kerry has hit the nail on the head. I've been using this approach and it seems to be the best, or at least the easiest, way to place drawers.
