I get that from time to time. Usually fixes itself with a reset and homing of the machine. Always clears itself up for me.

Gantry Skew

Post by Pete Riddle »

Tim, Mark, et all,

Gantry skew stems from one drive axis being more than .005 out (forward or behind) from the other axis. This only happens on machines with dual drives on the same axis. The most common cause is debri in the servo drive area that gets into the belt causing it to jump a tooth and be mis-aligned. However, it is also common to get this Gantry Skew error if you are normalizing the machine from several inches out of Home position. This is because during a normalize sequence the machine does not apply comp to the individual axis, so by the time the machine reaches home it may be skewed. But by the time it reads the home switch and jogs forward it is fine. So in this situtation that is a false error. Simply clearing it and continuing wth your program should cause no problems.

If you continue to have problems with this Skew problem please contact the Field Service Dept here at Thermwood and somone will be happy to help you.

Thanks,
