how about a dado-to-edge feature?

Post by Mark Hesketh »

i am always required to make cabinets with a 1/2\" thick back, set into a 3/4\" wide dado at the back of the cabinet. To do this, i have to create 2 cabinets... one with the 1/2\" back set in 1/4\", and another with a 3/4\" back flush to the back of the cabinet. I can then cut the backs from one cabinet, and the rest of the parts from the other. (This produces alot of \"DO NOT CUT\"-material parts that then have to be turned off, or get nested and simply waste paper and labels at the printing stage, and jumped over when cutting)

It would be great if there were a box we could check beside the joinery options when selecting full dado to \"dado to edge\", which would then continue the dado through the thickness of the part plus the inset.

Just another wishlist item for ya :)

Mark,
Inset your back then take the ends into the part editor and cut a pocket the depth of your dado to remove the\"tab\" to take upir dado to the edge.
Save the cabinet and it should nest properly with no \"do not cut\" parts.

evrytime i try that, I get an error message and it reverts to what it was before i put that pocket in.

not sure if it would do it to all cabinets, but i have tried repeatedly with upper corner cabinets and get the error message every time (on the top and deck)

Hi Mark

It would be nice to have the feature you mentioned, but this might be a work around. Why not just setup your cabinets with the 3/4 backs and when you go to cut, use 1/2 material. I don't think your machine cares if the back is 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch if its just a square cut.

Mark,
Try this. When you draw the geometry to cut the pocket, over size it on the ends and outside edge. This eliminates a lot of problems cutting the pocket.
