My Imagination?

Is it my imagination, or have we all just done the cleanest build upgrade in a long time? I don't see a slew of complaints about stuff not working. I do see some old ones still cropping up, but the level of forum activity has been significantly low, at least to my thinking.
If this is the case, my compliments to the T'Wood code writers.

I noticed that too. I always wait to install the \"fixes\" until the complaints die down. I kept looking for them on this build...... but there were none. I too dont have any. Other than the usual Ecab issues.

It probably helped that Build 4 was released to the beta testers. The previous builds were not.

By the way, any of you adventurous people out there might want to volunteer for beta testing duty.

Of course, I am just kidding, Rick.

Your main responsibility is to use the Beta version of the software, typically a new Build, or a new version of the eCabinet Systems program, and report back any bugs, potential work-arounds for problems encountered (if any), and to do it all in a timely manner, as the program developers usually are on a tight schedule.

Normally the Beta versions are issued only to the Beta Testers, who are members outside of the organization, people like you and me. The people involved in the Beta Testing program are typically users of the software and, as users, we are interested in a trouble-free package once we install it on our machines. This is where the Beta Testers shine: catching problems before the next Build or version is released, so that the programmers get a chance to fix it before it is released for general use.

Thanks for the nuts & bolts of this Al. I certainly think this is a topic that needs to be brought out into the open. The more eyes, the easier the find. A big thanks to all the beta testers out there for helping to make this software the leader that it is.

I personally think that the more beta testers the better because we all tend to use the software differently.

What you need to do as a beta tester, as was mentioned, is to use the software as you would normally do. If you find a problem you need to document and report it. It's really great if you can reproduce the problem and tell the programmers how to do it. It's hard for the programmers to find many of the bugs that we users do because they don't necessarily do a lot of real world usage of the software. They might not have a client that wants them to change all of the lower doors to one style and the uppers to another. They also might not think like some idiot (me) who constantly switches back and forth between metric and feet and inches.

You need to have a test pilot attitude about this. You may crash and burn, so you have to have your parachute ready (like backing things up). Personally I like to do the beta testing. I like being the first kid on the block to try a new toy - even if I do get a few scrapes trying it. I want to shake out all the bugs I can so I don't have to put up with them in a release.

I don't know if Thermwood is looking for volunteers at this time, but if they are I hope they will chime in.

It would be worthwhile for eCabs users to look into it. My uneducated guess is that many of the current Beta Testers may be involved doing something else and are unable to contribute fully, and that the program might need additional testers. Jason is the guy to contact if interested.

I did notice this last build was really solid even in the beta release. Its not often you get lots of fixes with few breaks but it seems to be the case this time around. Now if they can hurry up with V6 so we can test it.

I have a feeling the programmers were busy all along the development process, fixing problems with Build 3, and based on feedback right here on this forum.
