Why the sliver?

Post by Gene Davis »

Take a look at this cab. I placed two partitions as tray dividers, then detailed them using the part editor.

In part editor, I whacked a corner off using the chamfer routine, then rounded the corner as shown. Then I put the parts back as modified.

The rendering is showing the sliver. What's going on? I did not do that in the part editor.

Edit: after looking closely, I can see that the \"sliver\" is the \"extension\" of the partition that makes the \"tenon\" going into the full dado. It probably cannot be edited to not cut, and thus will have to be whacked as a sawcut operation post-CNC. That sliver will be hard to hold on the CNC table and will probably jump out anyhow.

Any ideas for a workaround?

Hey Gene

If you take the part into the contour editor and draw the triangle with straight lines, connect the corners and then cut the part out using the Cut/Pocket using closed contours method it will cut it clean.

Thanks, Mark!

I am up to speed on this now, and was able to cut the part successfully, at least in eCabs.

Gene, I have had this happen several times, the part is fine until I resized the cabinet, then the sliver appears. So it's back to the PE to redo the part.

Mark, thanks for the tip. I'll try that next time too.

Gene,
Before placing the partition go to Construction Settings/Add Partition Settings/Partition Construction Parameters and give your blind dado top tenon front an inset more or equal to the distance you are chamfering that partition. Then place the partition and take it to the part editor and chamfer it. this will make the blind dado cut properly and eliminate the sliver.
With your stretcher top you will have to give the partition blind dado construction parameter that will let the blind dado cut in the back stretcher only.
