Zargen, Metabox

Post by Gene Davis »

I did not look in the archives before writing this. Shame on me.

What is the workaround when in the eCabs drawer and drawerbox editors to produce the bottoms and backs of Zargen or Metabox drawers, then have them process so the parts are nested.

I am envisioning specifying drawerbox materials from something called \"do not cut\" for the fronts and sides, doing a buttjoint drawer, setting the side insets appropriately, but what else is there to know from those that have been successful at doing this?

How about the hardware holes for the slide attachment to sides? All doable?

Whoooooaaa! Say hello to Mr. Stupid!

It's all right there in the drawer box editor. The \"standard drawerbox\" was waitin' for me . . . I just hadn't examined the editor closely with the intention of doing these type drawerboxes.

Specify only \"has back\" and \"has bottom\", set a material of 12mm melamine no grain, go with bottom flush front and back, and start seeing what happens.

Now it's up to me to set the insets and see how everything works.

I wish there was a way to fix the heights and lengths to the Zargen or Metabox specs, and just let the sides ride with width changes.

I think I'll be doing a workaround using specified back insets depending on cab depth (which hopefully doesn't change), then doing heights using the height increment spec.

Any good hints from the old hands?

Gene,

I think you've got the right idea. I setup my Metabox this way but I leave the back and bottom together until I edgeband the back. Then I cut them apart at the table saw. The back alone is so small, it will likely move on the router.

Gene I set up my metabox and tandembox depths & hights using the \"Min increment\" settings. Works fine for us.

It would also be nice if the Drawer Box editor included a Part Editor so that you could setup the hardware holes in the bottoms and backs.

For that matter, having the Part Editor there would come in handy for a bunch of things like cutting notches and drilling for the Tandem style slides.

It would also be nice to be able to add dividers (sort of like partitions and shelves) to a drawer box to create drawers for cutlery, etc.

Once again I will chime in on the part editor for the drawer editor, cant think of very many things that are higher priority as a router owner,WELL, maybe line editor improvements for shop drawings!!!Both a must as I see it!
