Corner wallcab design

I would like to build a seed cab that is a corner wall cabinet, that makes use of Blum's 45 degree angle hinge.

Modeled here in Sketchup, you can see how the top and bottom of the cabinet are flush to sides, and the inset required of the angled front edge. This set of dimensions gives the 1/8\" door reveal I want when the cab is joined to other wallcabs of 11 3/4\" carcase depth.

This is a frameless arrangement.

I cannot figure out how to model this in eCabs so things turn out right. Can any of you wizards do it for me?

There are standard corner cabinets (base, upper, framed, frameless) that comes with eCabinets Gene.

If you don't stop using Sketchup and start using eCabinets exclusively, you will never get the hang of it.

Dan, I'm working with eCabs to the best of my limited abiliity, but I cannot find a way to use the part editor to ADD ON a triangular section to the front of this wallcab corner to make it the way I want.

The part editor is not very user friendly, and it seems to be able to be used to REMOVE material from a part per a defined contour.

Gene, open your corner cabinet that you showed in the last post, then go to construction settings (right click). there is a tab in the top left corner labelled \"corner settings\". change the option from corner front to angle front to get what I think you are looking for.

I found that feature, and now have the cab I want, at least for the carcase part.

I am now having a devil of a time getting the door to size the way I want it.

I have my top and bottom front edges inset -1/4\", which puts the geometry where I want it for the door, which should position at a bumper thickness of 1/16\" away from these front edges.

Setting the door INSET to anything other than zero makes the setting of reveals, and the results I get from the settings, a total CRAP SHOOT!

What's with this software, anyway?

I finally got something to give me the door size I need, but I could only do it with the door inset set to zero.

See the attached pic for the result. Why can't you do a negative door inset in this cab config?

Try going through eCabinet Systems Made Easy (located on the help menu). It does a pretty good job of explaining how to use the software.

Don't skip around in the documentation or you will quickly get lost.

I recommend signing up for one of the training classes. Everything I have heard about them is great. You will learn more in a three or five day class than you will in six months on your own.

Dan, I think I could go to a FIFTY day class at Thermwood, and still not have a solution.

The software simply wasn't written to handle a NEGATIVE door inset. Period.

But there is a workaround.

I can proof my cabinet in Sketchup (sorry) to ensure myself that all my clearances, reveals, overlays, whatever, are right, then do my cabinet to size without a door.

Then, I can size a door and bring the door into the cabinet to create an assembly, and place the door where I want it.

A little backwards, but hey, anything to get the kitchen to model accurately.

Try doing the door with your cab, after you have set the inset of the front edges of the top and deck to -1/4\", and then trying to use a negative inset for the door placement.

Here is where I am. Totally satisfied.

I guess I'm confused on what you are trying to accomplish. A negative inset will make a space between the door and cabinet. Is this what you want?

Earlier you spoke of reveals. A negative reveal will make the door larger and a positive reveal will make it smaller.

Are you trying to make an overlay door or an inset one?

I think since a negative inset works on regular cabinets and not the corner cabinet that this is probably a bug or an oversight.
You can probably accomplish what you are wanting to do by using a \"0\" inset and setting the reveals to size your door properly. It won't display properly but you can get the sizes correct this way. It will just show your door meshing into the sides a bit. If they fix it where you can add a negative inset to the door then you can display the door properly.

Guys,

Is this what you are trying to do? You may have to fiddle with the dimensions to get what you want but this is what I did.

Inset the left and right side of the cabinet (.5?) and then inset the left and right side of the door about the same. You will have to add to the overall left and right side of the cabinet to bring the depth back to what you need. Hover over the part to get the actual part size.

Forrest, if you take a look at the pics I attached to earler posts here, you'll see that I did the same thing, but that my top and deck are flush to sides.

I did that after examining how edgeband voids might affect appearance.

BTW, if the Raleigh Durham market is in your territory, I have a new customer for you for cabinetry jobs. He is a builder, and very interested.

Hi Gene,

Thanks for the lead. I don't normaly travel that distance except for very large jobs. I do have a few cabinet shop customers in Raleigh that purchase either parts or my pre-assembled line of cabs and arch. parts. These items are also available to builders and do it yourself type individuals but only a few want to do the finishing of cabinets. I would like to talk to this builder and if nothing else can point him to a few shops in the area.
