sharing cabinet files

We now have a couple of designers working with e-cab in our shop and haven't come up with a good way of sharing cabinet libraries.

does anybody have suggestions on how to best do this?

I would have each designer create a personal directory for their designs then copy them from computer-to-computer.

For example you have desingers named Sue and Bob. Sue stores her designs in a directory named \"Sue\" and Bob uses \"Bob.\" Each of them have both directories on their workstations.

Each of the personal directories are then copied to the personal directory on the other's workstation--\"Sue\" from Sue's workstation is copied to \"Sue\" on Bob's workstation and vice versa.

You can copy and paste the files into the cabinet directory of the e_cabinet folder. However, You will need to bring all the cabinets of each directory into the ecabinet editor and do a mass save back into that directory.

To do a Mass save: While in the cabinet editor, take in as many cabinets your system will handle, click the save button at the top of the screen, in the save dialog using the CTRL key, select all the cabinets, then type in the directory. and click save.

Otherwise the cabinets will maintain the original address from which they came, untill which time they are saved.

If both workstations have eCabinets installed in C:\\Program Files\\Thermwood and the directories are named the same, this is not necessary.

In fact, you don't have to do this at all because as Mike states, when you use the cabinet, it will be updated with the new location (if it is different). This information is stored in the individual .HSF files and not in the database.

What is stored in the database is materials. If the designers use different materials then they will be prompted to add the new material when opening a cabinet for the first time.

If the file location stays with the file can I setup my cabinet libraries on a shared location on one computer and access those cabinets from both workstations?

Nope. In the current version, the cabinet directory must be in the same path the program is installed in...e.g. if the software is installed in C:\\Program Files\\Thermwood\\eCabinet Systems, the cabinets directory must be C:\\Program Files\\Thermwood\\eCabinet Systems\\cabinets.

We keep hoping for this to be changed in a future version.

I wonder if anyone tried this before...
Install e-cabs on a 'server' and share the installed path over a network. Then start up e-cabs on the other computers? Or are there registry entries that you have to have on your own computer? Could someone from Thermwood perhaps chip in here?

Been there, tried that...don't work. The software has to be installed locally on the PC (you're correct: registry entries, licensing restrictions, etc).
