Profile Modeler Waste Board

Post by FredHirsch »

I'm trying to cut a mdf door in profile modeler and I'm a bit confused on where the wasteboard value is stored. After doing the profile I can see that it is not accounting for the wasteboard. Where do I put the wasteboard value in the Profile Modeler? I have not done perimiter cuts yet.

Also, wondering what you guys are using for priority in tool group? I have 1/2, 1/4 endmill and 3/8\"ball. Right now I have in this order:
1/2 end
3/8 ball
1/4 end

order does not seem to matter. There are some areas on the profile that I think the 3/8 ball would work nicely on, but it does not use the ball in those areas. In Artcam we usually work our way from end mills down to smaller ball at the end, but doesn't seem to matter in P.M.?

Thanks for the help.

Hi Fred,

The Profile Modeler does not automatically account for the wasteboard thickness. If you are wanting to machine a part on top of a wasteboard, you will need to manually scroll through cnc code and add the wasteboard thickness to the SET ZSHIFT=# value. The Set z shift is the material thickness for which you are cutting, by adding to this amt. you will raise entire program in z axis. The reason wasteboard is not automatically accounted for, is due to the fact that typically one off type parts will be double face taped to primary spoilboard for machining. But as shown above, you can manipulate the z shift to machine atop the additional wasteboard.

In regards to the tooling setup, The order that the tools exist in the list determines the order that they will be used to machine the part. If they can not be used in an operation, PM will go to next tool in list.
