I had a friend ask me how to add a front trim strip to an adjustable shelf. I'm thinking about a strip something like 3/4\" x 1 1/2\", for when you are doing bookcases and such. I know there is currently no good (easy) way to do this. I would love to see this as a feature in the software. Any other votes for this?
Maybe we could have a check box in the Adjustable Shelf construction settings that if you could select and then have the material selection enabled such as for the faceframes. Then when you insert a shelf it would have the trim auto-magically placed on it, and it would show up in the cut lists.

P.S.
Here's what I told him...
There are about 3 ways that I can think of to put a trim strip on the front of an adjustable shelf, and I don't like any of them.
1) If you are doing a piece that is the same thickness as the shelf you could just apply it as edgebanding. You can make the edgebanding be whatever thickness you like, so you could put a 3/4\" strip on the front. This does not show up on the cut lists, but it does show in the quantity of banding. It is parametric, so it will change with changes in the cabinet dimensions. It also causes the shelf depth to be adjusted accordingly.
2) You could also setup a face frame member to be whatever thickness and width you like, and adjust the insets so that the length is the same as the width of the shelf. This is also parametric. The problem is that there is no way to inset the part from the front of the cabinet. You will have to adjust your shelf depth to account for this.
3) You could also place a Display Board on the front of the shelf. You will have to adjust your shelf depth to account for this. This part will then be added to your cut lists, but now you have an assembly, so resizing the cabinet becomes more cumbersome from the Custom Layout Editor. This part is also not parametric, so any time you change the size of the cabinet you will need to remove and replace these parts.
It would be nice if there were a simple function to add these parts, but as of now it does not exist.

This would be a great addition. If it’s OK to throw a wish list out, I’d like to see:
The ability to control front joinery on the adjustable shelf and even select the size of a rabbet where the shelf meets the shelf cap. Some of us use the rabbet to make sanding less critical and to prevent lacquer crack when the two materials expand differently.

For the \"bullnose\" front of my shelves I make a edgebanding the same size as my bull nose and select it as the edgebanding for these type shelves, and apply them in the edgebanding editor.
As far as the cut list is concerned it gives the stock material list but not the sizes. I just cut them with the shelves.
Yes, it would be nice to include the sizes in the cut list.
