Window box valance

Here is the eCabinets design image and the finished product for a box valance I just completed for our living room.

It took a long time to do because the customer (wife) was so picky.

Unfortunately, yes. I am making them as well.

All told it will take about 80 yards of fabrics for the drapes!!! There will be three layers on the side windows and another from the arch. Each side panel takes 9 yards alone and the center will take over 20 yards.

I don't mind making the sides but she picked a satin for the center. I don't know how many of you have ever used a sewing maching, but satin is very hard to work with.

I used a sewing maching
To hold the basement door open

The boss uses it a lot for making things for little Micheal now

Thanks!

No, I didn't do those. The wife found some ornamental hollow cast resin things she liked at Hobby Lobby and wanted them on the valance. All I had to do was hang them.

Here's the latest update...with the drapes! Everyone probably heard me cursing at the sewing machine while I made them.

The *&^@#$ thing just didn't want to work!

I finally beat it into submission and got the drapes finished the day before Thanksgiving (just like my wife ordered me to do

).

The other pictures show another passion of mine...ceramic Christmas villages.

When I first saw the valance, I wondered what you would do with the drapes.....well, you pulled it off. The color and flow of the fabric is nice. Good job !

That has been the problem with that window for 14 years--what to do with it. Once we acquired and restored the old sofa, my wife wanted something to carry the ornate, over-the-top theme to the window (her talent showing Perry

I have done lots of upholstery before (furniture and cars) but this was the first time I had attempted draperies and a cranky sewing machine made it even more...uh, interesting.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words. This was a fun project once we figured out just what we wanted to do. The real fun though, came when it was time to mount the valance to the wall. I don't know how the builder ever got past inspections (bribery? cronyism?) but the windows don't have a header over them--just cripple studs! I had to find studs to screw the angle brackets into.
