When creating these contours always make sure that your object snaps are on. This will let you snap to the endpoints of lines or arcs, thus reducing the risk of creating gaps. Another tip is to trim all intersecting points. This will also reduce the risk of gaps as well. To turn sanps on:
1st - be in the countour mode of the Part Editor
2nd - Right-click > select object snap (if there is a check mark beside "object snap" then it is on.
